COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Based loosely on the Smokestack Series’ The Sixth Glass, this abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the “angel’s share” of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore.

Smells really good, dried fruits with an added cherry aroma. Appearance is not as dark as most quads, almost in between a double and a quad. It taste good, like a quad should. You can tell it is aged because the typical quad spices are toned down a little. The cheery flavor is a nice added touch, not sweet and overwhelming. Alcohol presence is there, it is %10.5 ABV and aged in bourbon barrels. If you like quads and are looking to try something different this is it.

Bottle. Pours a hazy red-hued brown body with a large creamy white head. Nose is sweet caramely bourbon tones, wood, banana, white sugar, grains, hints of honey, vanilla, nuts, toffee, alcohol and peanuts. Taste is rum, caramel, raisins, spruce, resin, bourbon, vanilla, hints of nuts, biscuits and wood. Full body and carbonation. Very nice BA barley wine without the stickiness that sometimes lingers a bit too much in similar brews.

Bottle at home. 2010 edition. Pours deep amber with a medium off white head. The aroma is cherries, vanilla, malt, light acid. Vinous overall. Dark berries and ripe fruit. Some nuts. The flavor is a great sweet mix of acidic but sweet cherries, almonds, dark fruit, malt, warming alcohol, molasses and berries. Fantastic!

"what a fantastic beer this was! we had a hard time picking this one over many other great beers up in Oregon, but were not at all disapointed once we got it home. smelled, looked, felt, and tasted awesome. It’s got some decent reviews, but i’m surprised it’s not higher. the complex blend of malt, oak, yeast & tart cherries in the aroma and flavor are wonderful, and the body is full & round. Boulevard just went up a few notches for having the balls and the talent to make a beer like this."

Bottled (thanks omhper!). Hazy orangeish brown colour with a small slightly off-white head. Aroma is strongly peach, some mild fruitiness, mild yeast, alcoholic sweetness and some toffee. Flavour is spices, raisins, some cherries, mild wood, a bit toasted notes as well as a nice lingering alcohol sweetness in the finish and aftertaste.

750 ml bottle into chalice, bottled on 8/19/2013. Pours hazy deep reddish orange color with a 1 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of raisin, plum, fig, date, apple, tart cherry, clove, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, coconut, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity fruity/spicy yeast, cherries, and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, date, apple, tart cherry, clove, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, coconut, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light fruity tartness and moderate yeast/oak spice on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, date, apple, cherry, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, coconut, toast, brown sugar, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, bourbon barrel, and light-moderate tart cherry flavors; with a great malt/yeast/barrel balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, fairly slick, and lightly syrupy/acidic mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome barrel aged quadrupel style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, bourbon barrel, and light-moderate tart cherry flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Dimmig mörk/djup orange med ett ljus brunt skum. Doft: Smör kola, bränt socker, övermogna körsbär, bourbon, vass trä doft, alkohol. Smak: Som doft i stort, fast bättre + vanilj. Dock lite för mycket bourbon i min smak.

C&C 750 mL bottle from Beer Run, 2013 vintage, opened 6/26/14. Pours a hazy brown color with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of whiskey, wood, toffee, vanilla, wood, caramel, faint booze and apple. The taste is green apple, whiskey, wood, toffee, caramel, vanilla. Medium bodied, low carbonation and well hidden booze. The green apple is a little off-putting but overall a solid beer.
