COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Based loosely on the Smokestack Series’ The Sixth Glass, this abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the “angel’s share” of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore.

@ Havregatan. Flaska (750 ml) från Systembolaget (159:-). Maltig, bourbon, vanilj och ek, hög sötma, karamell, viss syrlighet, något för endimensionell. I avslutningen finns bourbon och sötma.

On the Seventh Day of Christmas 2014 the beer gods gave to me . . . a bourbon barrel aged quad? It had me at hello. Poured into the Duvel glass for obvious reasons that I just discovered. Pours a murky brown color with light tan foam head. Aroma of dark fruit and loads of cherries. Some yeast mixed in. Sweet caramel taste with dark fruit and nice frothy hop hit. Tons of cherry and then a fading-in vanilla on backend. Some oak spice hits early and then lingers for some time after, but in a way that compliments they sweetness that also lingers. Excellent.

750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours deep brown with a cream-colored head. Aroma of bourbon and oak and vanilla, some notes of dark fruits, caramel and toffee and sweet malts, some light notes of chocolate, and some spices. Flavor the same with a nice blend of the quad and the barrels. Smoother texture. If I liked quads as much as I used to, this would be one of my favorite beers.

This beer is a slightly red brown in color and pours with a thick, lasting, creamy head. It has a mild cherry aroma punctuated with vanilla notes. The vanilla becomes much stronger in the flavor and the cherry much more subtle. That slight cherry flavor balances the bourbon bite and flavor really well. A wonderfully done beer.

News flash: Boulevard makes fantastic Belgian-style beers, and the Smokestack Series is amazing. Actually, nothing in that previous sentence was surprising. Fortunately, Bourbon Barrel Quad does pack some surprises. To put it a better way, it answers a unique question. "What would a bourbon barrel aged quad taste like?" Apparently, it tastes like cherries, sweet booze, sugary malt, oak, plus some touches of vanilla and smoke. In other words, it tastes delicious.

Bottle. A- Cherries, oak, woody, booze, sweet, dark fruits, brown sugar. A- Reddish color, hazy liquid, tan head. T- Oak, booze, dark fruits, cherry, slightly sweet, smokey. P- Full body, average texture, medium carbonation, boozy finish. O- Pretty darn good as expected with the Smokestack series. Lots of booze and resembles more of a barleywine for me. The cherries are there but the oak and booze really come through. Don’t really like the yeast in the glass it makes it look like sand got in my beer but I can get over that.

Bomber from HyVee for Thanksgiving dinner. The aroma is amazing--it’s bourbon and butter all the way. Flavor is rich with dark fruits and bourbon. Smooth. Surprisingly a little bit on the lighter side, but I can get past it. Worth the price? For special occasions, but not generally.

Hints of bourbon and fruit. Cinnamon, vanilla, molasses, brown sugar. Very boozy, definitely lots of bourbon. The cherry flavor is not very pronounced.

Floral cherry aroma and some malty bourbon notes. Beige head and murky rust colored body. Bourbon cherry with some juicy banana. Juicy and smooth on the palate.
