Based loosely on the Smokestack Series’ The Sixth Glass, this abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the “angel’s share” of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore.

Big toasted coconut aromas and raisin bread. Taste is yeasty raisin bread, caramel, bourbon, vanilla and some cherries on the finish and after taste. As it warms more caramel, vanilla, and toffee aromas appear; as well as some plum.

Opened a well carbonated bomber of the 2015 release and poured into a snifter glass. Copper in color with plenty of head. Fruit, caramel, and a nice Bourbon smell. Taste is sweet with caramel, vanilla, and dark fruits rounded off by bourbon. Would buy again in a heartbeat at 12.99!

2014 vintage. Cloudy nut brown pour. Dense one-finger head with tight bubbles. Lots of lacing. Wonderful mouthfeel. Very boozy and definitely the first taste is bourbon. Aroma has lots of bourbon. Nutty flavor is definitely present but not much in the vanilla or toffee sweeter flavors.

(Bottle) Reddish brown colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, dried fruit, rye bread (sour dough bread?), oak wood, bourbon, dried apricots, honey, vanilla and toffee. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, rye bread, bourbon, oak wood, toffee, vanilla, apricots, hints of liquorice (salmiac), dark cherries, raisins and a warming finish with a gentle spicy/earthy bitterness and a certain bourbon glow. Full body, quite sweet. Tasty, warming and complex with a generous bourbon wood character. Excellent beer.

Beautiful pour, great mouthfeel, but lacking a touch in the flavor department. Excellent copper pour w/ a retaining white head & good lacing. The aroma is surprisingly light w/ some bourbon coming through. The taste is heavy bourbon w/ the subtleness of the cherries as an undertone. It has a lovely mouthfeel but overall is just a solid beer.

Type: 750-ml. bottle Glass: Karl Strauss 26th anniversary tulip glass From: Barons Market in Alpine, Calif. Price: $14.99 Purchased: June 18, 2017 Consumed: July 8, 2016 Reviewed as: Quadrupel (Quad) Misc.: Bottled on Sept. 18, 2015; Best by Sept. 2017; Cork and cage top; Received from Rachel for Father’s Day Thanks, Rachel! Definitely a huge fan of Boulevard and happy that Rachel picked this one out for Father’s Day. Really have high hopes for this one. Expecting at least a 4.25. Poured a reddish-brown, amber, semi-clear color with 3-to-4 fingers of frothy, khaki head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Excellent foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.25) Smelled toffee, oak, bourbon, vanilla, leather, tobacco, caramel, oaked cherries, booziness late and cherry figs. (Smell - 4.50) Taste wasn’t quite as good as the nose, but decent. Got oak, bourbon, leathery tobacco, earthy wood, vanilla, toffee, caramel, dry cherries, figs, hints of tart cherry and dates. (Taste - 4.25) Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Long, warming finish. (Feel - 4.50) Really liked this one. Just good all the way through. (Overall - 4.25) 4.34 96 A

The taste of this one is heaven. The bourbon barrel really brings out the best of this beer. You have a lot going on and I can’t even begin to pick out every single thing, but I will try. A rich malt base with caramel, vanilla, brown sugar. Sounds sweet? The barrel aromas step in and balance it out. It has a nice, round, full bodied taste with a long finish where the bourbon barrel notes just wont disappear. I really enjoyed this one.
