COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Based loosely on the Smokestack Series’ The Sixth Glass, this abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the “angel’s share” of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore.

Boozy bourbon aroma with a lot of wood and a little vanilla. To me a quadrupel is more about complex malt and yeast flavors, but this is all about the alcohol. Taste is bourbon, overwhelming everything except a faint cherry aftertaste. If I wanted bourbon, I’d have bought bourbon. Very disappointing effort from a brewery I really like.

Smells of bourbon and sour cherries, taste is overwhelmed by bourbon, much more than most barrel aged beers. Not my favorite, I wanted a quad that tastes like a quad. Still decent enough though.

Draft @ Tapwerks, OKC. Bourbon character aroma, but not cloying. Dark Amber color, thin white head. Nice wood flavor in taste. Cherries noticeable in aftertaste, but not too sweet. Full bodied. Pretty nice beer for a 2014 beer.

Subtle cherry on top of nice bourbon flavor layered into a great Quad. I can't wait to get another bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bottle. murky brown/amber with small tan head. dark fruits, caramel, oak wood, lightly tart aroma. oak and strong bourbon flavors, butterscotch, cherry fruit, faintly sour. plastic band aid phenols. large bubbled annoying carbonation. kind of a jumbled mess with an unclear concept. i don’t get it. not my favorite from the smokestack series.

750 cc from Capone’s. Pours turbid coppery ruby with fizzy, off-white head. Nose is like a Westy Junior, with layered fruit, caramel malt, cherries, wood, funky yeast, hops, vinous fruit. Tastes dry, earthy and yeasty, with vinous fruit, dehydrated cobwebby esters, wood, hops, This is an exemplary quad.

2014 btl. Excellent head, color, nose, taste, finish. Perfect balance. Sweet, yet not cloying. Subtle cherries, medium bourbon sweetness, mild earthy hops, minimal alcohol present. One of my few perfect ratings. Wonderful beer!

UPDATED: NOV 9, 2014 Bottle bought @ Systembolaget. Pours clear reddish copper with a big frothy and fizzy goldenish beige head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty, boozy, slightly fruity, slightly estery and tiny phenolic with caramel, biscuits, vanilla fudge, charred wood, toasted coconut, marzipan covered baked pears, raisins, cherries, ripe apples, bourbon, butterscotch hard candy and hay. Taste is sweet, slightly malty, fruity, slightly estery and tiny phenolic with caramel, toffee, cherries, raisins, vanilla hard candy, toasted coconut, hazelnuts, pears, caramelized almonds, apple skins, bourbon alcohol, soil and hay. Mouthfeel is soft, round, slightly fruity tart, slightly boozy, tiny tannic astringent and medium to full bodied. Finish is slightly sweet, slightly malty and slightly fruity with caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, cherries, baked pears, caramelized almonds, charred wood, bourbon alcohol and hay. The cherries really adds to this making it a fun beer. Not too complex as a quad but barrel aging and fruit makes it a treat that is dangerously drinkable for the abv.

Very tasty! Based on the Sixth Glass, which is one my favs .... this guy has been aged in a bourbon barrel with cherries. 2014 from a bottle. It has nose of burned caramel with a faint essence of sour cherries. Pours a nice chestnut with a light tan head that is tight and persistent. The flavor is amazing. Smooth caramel wrapped candied cherries .... subtle on the cherries. Finishes with a lingering toasted caramel and subtle fizz. Well worth a try, if you like the Quad style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Caged and corked 750 mL. Cherry wood color with a huge beige head. Sweet cherries, soft Belgian yeast, vanilla/bourbon barrel, faint alcohol, and french bread. Taste has a fruity sweetness that folds into a dry yeast, wood flavor. Body is lighter but with a clingy feel.

sample from bottle at 2014 houston big brew fest. Deep brown with small head. Sweet brown sugary base with substantial bourbon element. Mild cherry. A bit of a sipper, but very tasty and complex.
