COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the brightest stars in a city filled with culinary treasures, Christopher Elbow has been hand-crafting masterpieces in chocolate for more than ten years. In that time the reputation of his artistic delicacies has spread around the globe. Elbow’s sweets are distinguished by their use of unusual and sometimes surprising flavors and ingredients; in that adventurous spirit we joined forces to bring you a very special Chocolate Ale. Chocolate Ale is full of surprises, beginning with a glowing amber hue. The aroma is given over to earthy, fruity cocoa, with just a hint of hops. Smooth layers of dark chocolate intertwine with threads of caramel, vanilla, and nutty malt as the flavor warms and rounds to a bittersweet finish.

A chocolate ale that's amber? The hue threw me, but comes in a lovely copper with pale and diminishing head. Aromatics are some malt and spice, with sadly nothing else to lure the nose. Surprisingly caramels and chocolate burst on the palate with full body and medium effervescence that finishes spicy and clean. W00t. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Reddish bronze in color... Aroma of cocoa powder, light nutty malts... Flavor is sweet malts, chocolate, lots of nuts... Much different than expected ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, caged and corked. Impressive pour, visually. Much lighter shade of brown than I’d anticipated. The head is simply towering, pock marked with bubbly foam. The aroma is simply "beery" IMHO, interestingly lacking of any hints at chocolate. This drinks with a very unique flavor, but again doesn’t come across as chocolate to my simple palate. Instead I get a little more of a fruity sweetness, and the rest of the attributes the brewer advertises ... very subtle caramel, and little vanilla. (#5605, 8/4/2014)

Bottle - 750mL corked and caged. Copper pour with a moderate, foamy tan head. Aroma is cocoa, thin chocolate, sweet malt, toasted grains, candy bars and soft fruit. Taste is cocoa, thin chocolate, candied fruit, chocolate covered fruit, sweet malt, grains, earthy notes and soft alcohol. Body is medium with a strong, bubbly carbonation. Ends with more chocolate, cocoa, earthy notes, sweet malt, toasted grains, dark bread and soft fruit notes. Tasty!

Light copper, clear, no lace. Medium body, smooth, slight flavor intensity, alcoholic, short palate. Moderately bitter, sweetish, refreshing acidity, almost sweet-sour. Hint of chocolate. Pleasant, not my style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bottle. slightly hazy copper with a medium, eggshell colored head. honey, cocoa, maple aroma. flavors of bitter bakers chocolate and honey. hops lend a faint floral/grassy note. any bitterness seems to be from cocoa. there is a moderate malt sweetness and a full body like a malty irish ale base. the grassy notes are a bit distracting and linger in the aftertaste. i don’t know..its alright.

Bottle thanks to Aaron. Pours a medium amber color with a finger of two of eggshell foam. Nose is off putting with a mixture of grain and chocolate but there is some strange copper pennies, fishy weirdness that isn’t very appealing. On the palate it makes more sense than the nose with nice balance between grainy malt sweetness and bitter round chocolate notes. Flavors are focused and the resulting beer is unique and well done. Quite surprised by this especially given the aromas.

Light brown with a thick white head. Aroma is roasted cocoa, a bit of spice and oddly a whiff of peanut butter. Flavor is roasted cocoa with a bit of bitterness and a surprisingly clean finish. A tiny bit of hops adds a little bite. Wife: 3

Draft at Beer Junction. Pours pale with white head. Aroma is, not surprisingly, dominated by chocolate. Cocoa nibs, a bit earthy -- the cocoa runs deep in this. Taste: chocolate "laffy taffy banana" bread. Palate: full body, thick. Overall: I’d say this is a novelty beer, but it’s put together well enough to not be *just* a novelty. Still, it’d be nearly impossible to drink more than 6 oz of this and be happy about it, and I’m not sure I’d ever go for a bottle of this except to share it with somebody after saying the words, "do you want to try something bizarre?"
