One of the brightest stars in a city filled with culinary treasures, Christopher Elbow has been hand-crafting masterpieces in chocolate for more than ten years. In that time the reputation of his artistic delicacies has spread around the globe. Elbow’s sweets are distinguished by their use of unusual and sometimes surprising flavors and ingredients; in that adventurous spirit we joined forces to bring you a very special Chocolate Ale. Chocolate Ale is full of surprises, beginning with a glowing amber hue. The aroma is given over to earthy, fruity cocoa, with just a hint of hops. Smooth layers of dark chocolate intertwine with threads of caramel, vanilla, and nutty malt as the flavor warms and rounds to a bittersweet finish.

Cocoa powder and vanilla aroma. Light sweet taste with definite chocolate notes coming through. Light and lively in the mouth but definitely has some body to it. A bitter chocolate finish. Good, interesting beer.

Nice ale but I can’t really discern any chocolate flavor to speak of. Nevertheless it’s a decent beer.

On tap at Waldo pizza, deliciously chocolat-y without being dark or heavy. Much more chocolate flavor on tap than in the bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a murky copper color with a white head. Very carbonated. Aroma is light bakers chocolate, caramel. Taste is malty with some milk chocolate, but less than I had expected. Not over the top chocolate at all. Very mild. There is a metallic taste in the finish. All in all a good solid beer but if you’re expecting thick heavy chocolate this is not it.

750ml shared. the pour was a medium light brown color transparent. minimal white head. the aroma was of light chocolate powder and alcohol. I was truly disappointed. the flavor as well it was malt and light chocolate and alcohol and I was not a happy camper I thought this one would and should have been much better. this is the lone turd from boulevard that I have had.

Bottle. Pours a murky amber with a ring of of white head. Aims and taste of spice, fruits, and a slight hint of chocolate, much less than I was expecting.

Found this at Holiday Wine Cellar for half off. Pours orange amber with a small, fizzy, white head that quickly dissipates, no lacing. Aroma is of vanilla cream soda, alcohol, slight cocoa, dark fruits(plum). The chocolate is not very pronounced in the aroma or flavor, it’s more in the background. The alcohol, vanilla, and fruity esters have a greater presence than the chocolate. Has a somewhat vinous character, slightly sour, light bitter. It’s decent enough, but would not seek it out.

Bottle. A hint of cocoa powder behind grape and unripe blackberry aromas. Almost smells like a sour. Taste is sweet with stone fruit flavors. Not what I was expecting at all but interesting.
