COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the brightest stars in a city filled with culinary treasures, Christopher Elbow has been hand-crafting masterpieces in chocolate for more than ten years. In that time the reputation of his artistic delicacies has spread around the globe. Elbowís sweets are distinguished by their use of unusual and sometimes surprising flavors and ingredients; in that adventurous spirit we joined forces to bring you a very special Chocolate Ale. Chocolate Ale is full of surprises, beginning with a glowing amber hue. The aroma is given over to earthy, fruity cocoa, with just a hint of hops. Smooth layers of dark chocolate intertwine with threads of caramel, vanilla, and nutty malt as the flavor warms and rounds to a bittersweet finish.

Appearance is a murky light brown with a creamy slightly off white foam cap. Aroma very close to your typical amber ale with caramel dominating, but with a slight hint if vanilla. Hops not evident. Taste is interesting. Starts really sweet caramel, gives way to a bit of toasted malt and vanilla, and a slightly woody and earthy taste. I might get the slightest hint of bittersweet chocolate, but itís barely there. Mouthfeel is medium with a moderate to high level of carbonation. At the finish the body seems to dissipate and become light and dry, which causes the alcohol to stand out and dominate. There is the slightest indication of bittersweet chocolate that lingers

Bomber. Hazy caramel with a small, beige head that lasts in a ring. Aromas of caramel, coco, nuts, light spice and earthy notes. Flavor is coco, caramel, toasted malt, nuts, spice, light vanilla and dark fruit. Medium bodied, smooth with a dry, warm end.

Interesting. Pours hazy brown. Aroma is primarily chocolate. Smooth in the mouth, with a weird sour chocolate finish.

Light and airy. Nice chocolate mix. A bit artificial, but like a Three Musketeers bar, you know its not real, yet you enjoy it.

Strong milk chocolate notes, caramel malts, light bitter hops and Belgian yeasts. Very good!

Pours light brown with a thick but quickly dissipating head. Aroma is light malts & chocolate. Taste is very much like the aroma with a chalky chocolate layer at the finish. The alcohol in this one is well hidden. Itís not bad, but kinda mellow and one dimensional - the more I do this, the more picky I become. Iím spoiled.

Tap at Verdugo. Strange, quite flat, but that probably makes sense, milky choc. Confusing but nice though.

Wow, was I surprised. Iím used to chocolate stout and wondered what a chocolate ale would be. For me, it tasted like a mild Belgian trappist ale. The chocolate is very subtle. Itís almost like you are drinking a beer where the malt has really good chocolate overtones. It doesnít taste like a chocolate beer. Really nice blend of hops and malt. Iím not a big malt fan and the blend between malt and hops is really nice. It doesnít taste like a 9.1% beer. Itís nothing like a hot double IPA like finish. Itís smooth, balanced and is very food friendly.

on tap @ Vino Bellissimo / Lima OH --- Surprisingly light coloring - clear dark amber; ivory head cover, strips and dots of lace. Taste is light-bodied malt that adds carbonation and mild chocolate on the swallow, only adding enough hops to balance. Danger!!: This tastes nothing like 9% abv. Good, but much more mild-mannered than I expected.
