COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the brightest stars in a city filled with culinary treasures, Christopher Elbow has been hand-crafting masterpieces in chocolate for more than ten years. In that time the reputation of his artistic delicacies has spread around the globe. Elbow’s sweets are distinguished by their use of unusual and sometimes surprising flavors and ingredients; in that adventurous spirit we joined forces to bring you a very special Chocolate Ale. Chocolate Ale is full of surprises, beginning with a glowing amber hue. The aroma is given over to earthy, fruity cocoa, with just a hint of hops. Smooth layers of dark chocolate intertwine with threads of caramel, vanilla, and nutty malt as the flavor warms and rounds to a bittersweet finish.

Pours a burnt amber orange color with a white head. Toffee, caramel, biscuit, fruit, spice and chocolate aroma. Chocolate, caramel, toffee, smoke, peat, plum, raisin, toast, herb and malt flavors. Medium full body and average carbonation. Toffee and caramel finish. Was expecting more chocolate.

Bottle at home in snifter. Aroma is sweet chocolate, light roast, some earthy notes. Flavor is quite chocolatey. Big time sweet chocolate notes but not overpowering. Not bad.

On tap at Lunar Brewing Co., and snifter served displaying an unexpected, hazed amber color, with a finger’s width of off white/light tan head foam that gradually reduced to a persistent ring & light film, and wavy ribbons of lacing. The nose was initially dank & earthy, with a slight roasted hint. Then it gradually exuded a noticeable baker’s chocolate scent as it warmed. The taste, on the other hand, was immediately a pronounced semi-sweet chocolate, malt, and caramel sweetness, bittered moderately by a roasted & earthy astringency, in a medium body, with fair carbonation to carry the flavor notes. Liked the time release effect of the aroma. Quite tasty, otherwise!

Pours a hazy copper color with a white head. The chocolate is subtle in the aroma but comes through in the flavor.

Pours a hazy orange. A shocking aroma for the appearance - strong with chocolate. A strong cocoa powder taste with some caramel and very light coffee. Lingering chocolate taste.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy copper color with a thin, off-white head. Slight hops with a strong cocoa aroma. Amazing chocolate presence in the flavor. Light, hoppy bite in the finish, but tons of cocoa. Really good brew.

Bottle; poured a bog water type brown with a khaki colored head. Aroma was surprisingly subdued, with notes of caramel, fruit and cocoa. Flavor had a lot of nuance for a chocolate beer. Layered w/ various notes at various times. Finish lingered with some boozy heat. Nutty, caramel and chocolate. Mild to low bitterness. Probably would have liked a more chocolate centered beer.
