One of the brightest stars in a city filled with culinary treasures, Christopher Elbow has been hand-crafting masterpieces in chocolate for more than ten years. In that time the reputation of his artistic delicacies has spread around the globe. Elbowís sweets are distinguished by their use of unusual and sometimes surprising flavors and ingredients; in that adventurous spirit we joined forces to bring you a very special Chocolate Ale. Chocolate Ale is full of surprises, beginning with a glowing amber hue. The aroma is given over to earthy, fruity cocoa, with just a hint of hops. Smooth layers of dark chocolate intertwine with threads of caramel, vanilla, and nutty malt as the flavor warms and rounds to a bittersweet finish.

Not to my taste, but really well done. Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Strong milk chocolate notes, caramel malts, light bitter hops and Belgian yeasts. Very good!

Pours light brown with a thick but quickly dissipating head. Aroma is light malts & chocolate. Taste is very much like the aroma with a chalky chocolate layer at the finish. The alcohol in this one is well hidden. Itís not bad, but kinda mellow and one dimensional - the more I do this, the more picky I become. Iím spoiled.

Bottle. Amber beer with a dark cream head. Chocolate and light hop aroma. Chocolate and light malt flavor. Medium bodied. Chocolate lingers with light hops and light malt.

Tap at Verdugo. Strange, quite flat, but that probably makes sense, milky choc. Confusing but nice though.

Wow, was I surprised. Iím used to chocolate stout and wondered what a chocolate ale would be. For me, it tasted like a mild Belgian trappist ale. The chocolate is very subtle. Itís almost like you are drinking a beer where the malt has really good chocolate overtones. It doesnít taste like a chocolate beer. Really nice blend of hops and malt. Iím not a big malt fan and the blend between malt and hops is really nice. It doesnít taste like a 9.1% beer. Itís nothing like a hot double IPA like finish. Itís smooth, balanced and is very food friendly.

on tap @ Vino Bellissimo / Lima OH --- Surprisingly light coloring - clear dark amber; ivory head cover, strips and dots of lace. Taste is light-bodied malt that adds carbonation and mild chocolate on the swallow, only adding enough hops to balance. Danger!!: This tastes nothing like 9% abv. Good, but much more mild-mannered than I expected.

This was a very good beer it was light and has a very dark flavored chocolate taste to it. I really think this is a good desert beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber. Aroma is pretty subtle. Faint cocoa, caramel malt, stone fruit. Lots of carbonation. Raisin. Tastes like snorting cocoa puffs. The chocolate is more of an implication than an indictment. Slight crystal/ cocoa sugar. Kinda sweet. Was expecting a slap of cocoa, got an innuendo. Different, but not a fan, but not terrible. Iím

Pours a burnt amber orange color with a white head. Toffee, caramel, biscuit, fruit, spice and chocolate aroma. Chocolate, caramel, toffee, smoke, peat, plum, raisin, toast, herb and malt flavors. Medium full body and average carbonation. Toffee and caramel finish. Was expecting more chocolate.

Bottle at home in snifter. Aroma is sweet chocolate, light roast, some earthy notes. Flavor is quite chocolatey. Big time sweet chocolate notes but not overpowering. Not bad.
