COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barley, wheat, rye and oats provide the foundation for this big stout. Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, creme brulee. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety mouthfeel mellows to a dry, smoky finish. Such a robust beer stands well by itself, but also makes a wonderful end-note to any rich, indulgent meal. Discover the secret of combining this roasty ale to sweets, by pairing with dark chocolate or caramel, or even by pouring it over ice cream.

The appearance was a nice dark brown/black color with a one finger off white foamy head that hangs around for a good one minute and slowly dies at a nice pace leaving some light trickling lacing. The smell was rich and malty through some nice Belgian spices adequately gracing my nose. The taste was sweet and luscious with some nice dark fruits amplifying the Belgian spices that came out in the nose that ends up adding a decent chocolate background coming out in the aftertaste and leading to a dry finish. On the palate, it sits about a medium and has an acceptable harshness pervading through on my mouth and tongue, nothing obscure just noticeable. Overall, I say this is a wonderful Belgian Dark Stout well worthy of coming back to.

Bottle. Black with good brown head. Aroma: Heavy on dark fruits, chocolate, mild coffee and cocoa. Taste: Roasted malts, smoke, bit rye, dark fruits, yeast, chocolate and alcohol. More this warms up, more alcohol comes up on taste. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Bitter, dry, ashy and again alcoholic finish. Somehow very alcoholic, and that plummy Belgian yeast is just not my thing.

(12oz. bottle) - One finger tan head w/large bottles. Lots of bottles coating the inside of the glass. Dark brown, bordering on black, body. Mild aroma. Signature Belgian yeast character in the flavor. Traits of cocoa powder and raisins. Alcohol finish. Reminds me more of a Quad than an Imperial Stout. Still, mighty tasty.

Bottle from Pear Delicatessen & Shoppe, Seattle, bb 12/26/14
Black color, with compact brownish head. The aroma immediately strikes for its fresh fruitiness, apples, pears, and just a hint of roastiness. The mouthfeel is very smooth, quite round; the dark chocolate flavor prevails over the roasted malt, but there is also a relatively evident liquorice component; it has the right amount of residual sugars, strong bitterness, a peppery note and some alcohol warmth.
Excellent.

Tobacco and red raspberry aroma, charred oak underneath. Black, thick tan head. Rich charred oak, charcoal, blueberry and very subtle figs. Followed by creosote and smoke. Never very sweet at all. Medium body, intense, alcohol well concealed. A little thin, but has good balance, excellent transitions and complexity. Wow, easily mistakable as a Danish stout.

Bottle - Heavy Roasted malt and alcohol taste. Jet black color with only a small head. Thick on the palate. I donít mind a good stout but I couldnít get into this one. It tastes to much like alcohol, has the sharp taste going down.

2014.04.23 - Boulevard Dark Truth Stout - 12 oz bottle best by 5/07/14 A tasty stout. Not as complex as something like Bourbon County but it is rich. Mostly a smoky flavor without being outright "smoked". Some peat like notes at finish. Some sweet maltiness. Took a few drinks for my palate to catch up. It's pretty good afterward. 6/4/7/3/14

Bottle. A- Cocoa, roasty, smokey, soy sauce, anise. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Worcestershire sauce, bitter cocoa, dark chocolate, smokey, coffee, licorice, alcohol. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, strong finish, O- A good beer but a little bit of a let down for the smokestack series. Some strong notes of soy and Worcestershire sauce and the alcohol is very present. I do think this would benefit greatly from some barrel aging.
