Barley, wheat, rye and oats provide the foundation for this big stout. Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, creme brulee. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety mouthfeel mellows to a dry, smoky finish. Such a robust beer stands well by itself, but also makes a wonderful end-note to any rich, indulgent meal. Discover the secret of combining this roasty ale to sweets, by pairing with dark chocolate or caramel, or even by pouring it over ice cream.

2014.04.23 - Boulevard Dark Truth Stout - 12 oz bottle best by 5/07/14 A tasty stout. Not as complex as something like Bourbon County but it is rich. Mostly a smoky flavor without being outright "smoked". Some peat like notes at finish. Some sweet maltiness. Took a few drinks for my palate to catch up. It's pretty good afterward. 6/4/7/3/14

Glad I noticed I hadn’t rated this yet since it’s one of my go-to stouts! Dark chocolate, dark fruits, dark coffee and caramelized sugar with a smoky finish.

Bottle. A- Cocoa, roasty, smokey, soy sauce, anise. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Worcestershire sauce, bitter cocoa, dark chocolate, smokey, coffee, licorice, alcohol. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, strong finish, O- A good beer but a little bit of a let down for the smokestack series. Some strong notes of soy and Worcestershire sauce and the alcohol is very present. I do think this would benefit greatly from some barrel aging.

Dark brown head, with completely black color. Malt, toffee, burned malts, chocolate, raisins, cream. Lots of ripe fruits in this, plum, raisins, pear, breadish malts, sweet toffee and a sharp espresso note, preventing the beer from being too sweet. Warm, coffeeish bitterness stays very long on the palate. Very smooth mouthfeel, more creamy than oily, great complexity. Fantastic balance, the beer goes from sweet to bitter to earthy, without letting one impression become too present. Even hints of smoke and alcohol, as the beer warms up, adding to the earthy, warm character.

Rated on 8-30-2010 (corked and caged bottle) This beer pours a large frothy, fizzy light brown head that mostly diminishes, opaque black body, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma has a lot going on...roasted malt, chocolate, espresso, hint of licorice, herbal hops, spicy, fruity, and plums. The taste is very active as it is sweet, spicy, dark fruits malt, chocolate, roasty, rich, smokey, yeasty, and has a short dry finish. The palate is smooth and this beer is medium-full bodied. Wow! This beer has so much going on that I most likely missed some aromas and flavors! It is a complex beer with so much going on, but in a good way. It is a sipping beer with a rich taste. It is definitely worth trying and a beer I would look forward to drinking again.
