Barley, wheat, rye and oats provide the foundation for this big stout. Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, creme brulee. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety mouthfeel mellows to a dry, smoky finish. Such a robust beer stands well by itself, but also makes a wonderful end-note to any rich, indulgent meal. Discover the secret of combining this roasty ale to sweets, by pairing with dark chocolate or caramel, or even by pouring it over ice cream.

This pours an opaque black into the glass, with a creamy tan head that leaves webbed lacing. The nose is of dark stone fruits and figs. Flavors have light coffee/espresso notes, dry initially, but sweeten as the caramel, toffee, figs, dates, chocolate and vanilla take deep root in the palate. The yeast also adds some dark stone fruits and berries to the mix. With complexity for days, this incorporates a hint of ABV and vanilla extract in the finish. The carbonation is soft, with a smooth, rich, luscious full body. The great integration and substantive mouthfeel lends a nice nightcap or aperitif to any meal or situation. Extremely well-integrated, this is a brew to seek out again! Awesome Impy Stout!

12 oz. bb 11/25/2016. Body is jet black and supports a disc of cream. Nose is cocoa, espresso and fig liqueur. Tastes of prune, chocolate toffee, toasted walnut, and touches of coffee and banana. Medium-heavy body has a medium carbonation and a nice balance.

Draft at Johnny's tavern. Deep black color. Boozy malty flavor with a sweet flavor. Very good stout with a lot of flavor

Very disappoint in this beer, priced as if it were premium craft. Underdeveloped, over-carbinated, boring, hot, and simple. I don’t mean to unnecessarily blast this beer, suffice to say I considered dumping it out to pour something better.

This is a really nice stout. I was lucky to get while visiting the Kansas City area. Mellow for an Imperial stout.

Bottle. Pours a black color with tan head. Cocoa, roasty, black licorice aromas. Chocolate, syrupy, roasty, malty, figs, and slightly boozy flavors. A solid beer, but not quite as good as other Smokestack beers.

Bendrixian (1358) - Canadiana, Ontario, CANADA - APR 30, 2015
Pours dark black with a little red tinge and brown head. That blegian yeast gives a bit of fruit pie and berry notes that mix well enough with toast and chocolate. Sweet jésus this is a nice balanced brew with toast roast and a bit of nutmeg spice. Good length and complex. Wish I had another one to age. Very good.

Wittales (733) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - APR 27, 2015
Appearance was motor oil with creamy lasting mocha 3 finger head, spotty lacing. Aromas are deep fruits, cherry, toffee, marzipan, soft coffee and chocolate, no alcohol. Taste are fruits of fig, prunes, plum, cherry, licroce upfront, then soft black, roast malts come to play. The glorious soft smooth alcoholic balanced finish. Palate was smooth creamy CO2 with slick oily full body, then lasting balanced brew. Overall a beautiful example of an American Stout, well done Boulvard. Vintage 2013
