3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Imperial stout blind tasting, sample 9 of 13. Near black pour, lasting khaki foamy head. Alcohol, roast. Damn, it gets hard to say things about imperial stouts the longer this goes on.

UPDATED: APR 5, 2015 Definitely a high smoke flavor but not overwhelming. Deep coloring. Flavor is not extra rich but still strong. Bottle

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from a 4 pack my friends left me in their fridge for checking in on their cat while they were out of town. Thin dark brown pour with medium beige head. Aroma on wet coffee grounds, bubble gum, clove, tea leaves. Flavor is aggressively herbal with medium coffee notes and spicy black pepper. Thin body with cola/coffee/herbal finish. Easy drinking. The belgian notes aren’t my favorite for a stout, but it’s a nice change.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled. Pitch black colour, beigeish brown small head, which leaves lace and lasts for quite a while. Aroma is roasted malts, some liquorice, coffee, mild alcohol as well as some vanilla and some slight yeasty notes. Flavour is consisting of pretty much the same elements, also having a nice burnt wet wooden flavour. I’ve had this around for some while, and it feels like aging this a bit was a winner. Too bad I didn’t buy more bottles. of it.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep brown body with orange-red highlights, thick puffy light brown head. Bready nose with herbal notes and chocolate; sweet, grainy and light/airy. Sharp and sweet body, rather light/thin with lots of toasted sugars, vinous character, and roast; airy and cerealy. Good, but lacks heft given the ABV.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Look is typical for the style. Smell is mostly dark coffee, some chocolate notes. Taste is solid and well balanced: chocolate, some oak, maybe a hint of anise and more nicely roasted malt. Fairly hoppy, which nicely refreshes the palate so that this can be drunk on its own. Mouth feel is creamy but not coating. Quite fine; not as much of a flavor bomb as many in the style, but points for drinkability and balance.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20
I have had this several times before but never got around to rating it. Smells roasty, dark chocolate, coffee undertones, leather, and oak with faint hops in the background. Pitch black with a light tan head. Taste is more roast and char with some dark fruit, coffee, chocolate and an earthy quality. Some booze detectable but not much. Very good, well made. Palate leaves much to be desired; that's my only knock on this beer. This is what I would give to people who are not familiar with the imperial stout style. It's a little safe, but overall one of the good ones.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a medium black and thickness for the style. Fluffy, brown head. Aroma of roasty malt a little smokiness and some alcohol. Flavor is dusty smokiness, roasted malt, with a crisp mouthfeel. A little thin for the style and could be more creamy. Not bad. Worthy of trying.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours tar black with a tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, oats, and dark fruit. Roasted malt, coffee, flavor with oats, hint of chocolate, and dark fruit. Very nice beer.
