4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle poured into a tulip glass. Pours black with a massive tan head. Slowly fades away to a 1/2" cap. Nose is roasty malts, figs, raisins, caramel, very rich aromas. A bit lighter smell than a lot stouts I’ve tried. Taste is rich, similar to a Trappist quad, but with a slight bitter finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Medium mouthfeel, medium/heavy carbonation, very drinkable!

12oz bottle; best by: 7/9/11 printed on the side. I think this beer would age well far past that date, but no matter.
Pours a very thick, dark black. A small half-finger mocha head rest atop. Retains fair enough, and leave some nice lacy sheeting on the glass. The nose carries some tart fruity aromas, that aren’t all that expected. I’d expect a bit more roasted quality, but I guess with the addition of the Belgian yeast, this takes on a more tart quality. Some light chocolate on the finish.
Hefty body for this big stout, as expected. Light spritzy quality with a moderately-high carbonation presence. The yeast-y aspect comes through in the flavor, but not as strong as I thought it would, which is good. This then gets masked by a heavily roasted coffee flavor, and finishes bittersweet, with hints of fruit and toasted sugar. Decent stout, but I will echo some of the other reviewers and say that this really needs to be called a Belgian Stout. Thanks again, Derek!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours black with about a finger of dark tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, chocolate and coffee. Taste is light bitter. Fruity with some caramel, coffee and chocolate notes. Full bodied with a thick and creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. I would gladly drink this again.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sooty looking body with a lush, burnt chocolate head. At first, the whiffs off the glass seem too clean, almost sterilized and disinfected, but they eventually yield to coal-tinged puffs that belie black patent malting. These smells seem stirred up from the depths of a pile of soot. Decent mouthfeel, smooth, thick and rolling with a heavy grainy roast of barley and black patent. some smoke complexity.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 9, 2013 Pours black with overly big thick brown head that reduces slowly to fine bubbles and nice lacing. Taste is very rich, somewhat bitter, chocolate, coffee, roasty. Full body, thick mouth feel, average to soft carbonation leading to a bitter long finish. One of my favorite stouts. Nice.

4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Rated this last night (or maybe it was early this morning?) on paper. 12 oz bottle shared with brenn79. Aroma is malty, roasty. Pours coal black with a large lacy lasting tan head leaving lace. Taste is so different than your average impy stout. Fruity dark fruit flavors are prominent. Very different, very good.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Small bottle. Thick brown head on dark beer. Rich aroma of chocolate wafer. Lots of bitternes for a big stout. Alcohol in the finish. Big aggressive in your face stout. Chocolate drips from each coffee soaked sip. A rooty earthy finish as your drink the bottle.

[Thanks to MatSciGuy]. 12fl. oz. bottle. Black beer with a nice tan head, easy formation, decent lasting and small bubbles. Aroma has notes of toasted malts, vanilla, Porto wine and moderate licorice. Flavour has notes of roasted and toasted malts, wood hints are present, burnt coffee and dark chocolate. The final is moderate alcoholic with and aftertaste dominated by burnt malts. Carbonation is medium. Body is high. Texture is oily.
