Barley, wheat, rye and oats provide the foundation for this big stout. Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, creme brulee. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety mouthfeel mellows to a dry, smoky finish. Such a robust beer stands well by itself, but also makes a wonderful end-note to any rich, indulgent meal. Discover the secret of combining this roasty ale to sweets, by pairing with dark chocolate or caramel, or even by pouring it over ice cream.

"I usually prefer the non-fruity type imperial stouts, but this is pretty nice. Very little hint of the abv. Aroma is slightly smoky and spicy atop chocolate, roasted malt and dark fruit. Tingly feel, but robust without any heat. Flavor has less smoke and a slight nuttiness. Smooth with a nice bittersweet roasty finish

Flaske 355ml fra Vinmonopolet, Bestillingsutvalget. Kullsort.

Pours a black body with a large, medium brown head that leaves lots of foam on the glass as it shrinks to a fully lasting layer. Dark roasted malty, sweet, delicious and very strong aroma of dark caramel, chocolate and coffee, with liquorice and light bourbon notes in the back together with a whiff of alcohol. Intense and complex flavour of all the goodies that dark malt can summon: dark caramel, chocolate, coffee and salty liquorice. The alcohol is well integrated and gives a vinous feel to this masterpiece. Again I think I detect some gentle bourbon notes, but come to think of it might be the Belgian yeast that confuses me. The initial taste is moderate sweet, and the long finish is moderate+ bitter. It’s a close to full bodied-beer with a oily texture and soft carbonation. A fantastic brew!

355ml bottle thanks to Torgeir for the treat, shared with Kjell and Finn. Served in a small tulip glass. Creamy, tan-coloured head. Jet black body. Aroma of roasted dark malts, oak and mild tartness. Fine mixed taste of dark malts of liquorice and coffee and subdued fruity tartness beneath. Long-lived ending. Masked alcohol. Rather easy to drink. Well made (at Café Sånn in Tromsø, 23.08.2014).

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Harpoon tulip glass. The color is dark black with no highlights.Light is not penetrating any part of this beer that I can detect. The head is three and a half fingers of brownish/tan foam with some nice lacing left on the glass. The smell has a little coffee aroma and has just a hint of dark chocolate. There are some black malt aroma here that has a brown bread-like aroma. The taste is has a nice roasty flavor that presents itself with some volume. There is a bold malty push on the tongue that seems at first like it could be unpleasant but then settles into a nice smokey flavor that lets some of the plum and other dark fruit flavor come out. This beer has a big feel to it at first and then eases up some toward the middle. The aftertaste lingers some with some but is not off-putting.

0.355l bottle. Looks quite good this. A deep and dark brown looking body, on the border of black really, under a big really lingering and what can only be described as super lacing brownish head. After emptying the bottle it reveals lots of big chunky sediments in the glass. On the nose I get a nice roasted tone. Sweetish coffee, some mild fudge like sweetness - but dark. It’s gentle, not what you’d might call super extreme but I have no problem saying that it smells quite nice. Lots of licorice in the taste! Oh, that’s nice! Thick and almost chewy in the mouth with a below average almost prickling carbonation level. Yeah, this is my kind of beer. Love the almost salty licorice flavors this puppy packs. There’s a bitter chocolaty thing also here. Dark really strong and slightly bitter coffee to. Roasted and sweetish. A really nice sipper this. Warming finish, really warming actually. I most definitely will be having this again! Nice! 20.06.2014
