Barley, wheat, rye and oats provide the foundation for this big stout. Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, creme brulee. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety mouthfeel mellows to a dry, smoky finish. Such a robust beer stands well by itself, but also makes a wonderful end-note to any rich, indulgent meal. Discover the secret of combining this roasty ale to sweets, by pairing with dark chocolate or caramel, or even by pouring it over ice cream.

Pours dark brown to black with a tan head. Aromas of dark fruit like fig or plums. Also a little coffee and smokiness. Taste the same. Nice lacing in the glass. Palate is medium overall. Nice stout but not overwhelming.

Dark pour with a nice head. Lots of fruit in the aroma. Plums, raisins, figs, that sort of thing. Thick and creamy mouthfeel. Really nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Excellent beer. Again a beer of my favourite style. Dark thick and very rich in flavour. Delicious!

UPDATED: JUN 25, 2015 Blind RIS experiment [Sample 19 of 20, 5/5/2015]
Close to the end of this experiment. Hope this goes better than yesterday and we can end on a high note. Deep dark pour, creamy khaki head, good retention and lacing. Aroma: chocolate; lightly sweet metal fruit. Taste: metal and coffee. Iím really getting tired of metal in this. The chocolate that comes in its wake is nice enough. Not nice enough to cover it all up, though. Some bitter burnt caramel creeps in at the very tail as well, but not in a tasty way. Later thereís a lingering taste reminiscent of long slowly baked rye bread. Palate: creamy texture, full- body, light carbonation. Overall: metallic coffee bitter fruit filling. I guess Iím learning all about the flavors I donít like in imperial stouts, so thatís a plus? Meh.

RB Rating: 6/4.5/6/3/11.
Would pay: $0. Add this to my one-and-done list.

Imperial stout blind tasting, sample 9 of 13. Near black pour, lasting khaki foamy head. Alcohol, roast. Damn, it gets hard to say things about imperial stouts the longer this goes on. [7/5/7/4/14]

UPDATED: APR 5, 2015 Definitely a high smoke flavor but not overwhelming. Deep coloring. Flavor is not extra rich but still strong. Bottle

Bottle from a 4 pack my friends left me in their fridge for checking in on their cat while they were out of town. Thin dark brown pour with medium beige head. Aroma on wet coffee grounds, bubble gum, clove, tea leaves. Flavor is aggressively herbal with medium coffee notes and spicy black pepper. Thin body with cola/coffee/herbal finish. Easy drinking. The belgian notes arenít my favorite for a stout, but itís a nice change.

Bottled. Pitch black colour, beigeish brown small head, which leaves lace and lasts for quite a while. Aroma is roasted malts, some liquorice, coffee, mild alcohol as well as some vanilla and some slight yeasty notes. Flavour is consisting of pretty much the same elements, also having a nice burnt wet wooden flavour. Iíve had this around for some while, and it feels like aging this a bit was a winner. Too bad I didnít buy more bottles. of it.

Deep brown body with orange-red highlights, thick puffy light brown head. Bready nose with herbal notes and chocolate; sweet, grainy and light/airy. Sharp and sweet body, rather light/thin with lots of toasted sugars, vinous character, and roast; airy and cerealy. Good, but lacks heft given the ABV.

Look is typical for the style. Smell is mostly dark coffee, some chocolate notes. Taste is solid and well balanced: chocolate, some oak, maybe a hint of anise and more nicely roasted malt. Fairly hoppy, which nicely refreshes the palate so that this can be drunk on its own. Mouth feel is creamy but not coating. Quite fine; not as much of a flavor bomb as many in the style, but points for drinkability and balance.
