Barley, wheat, rye and oats provide the foundation for this big stout. Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, creme brulee. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety mouthfeel mellows to a dry, smoky finish. Such a robust beer stands well by itself, but also makes a wonderful end-note to any rich, indulgent meal. Discover the secret of combining this roasty ale to sweets, by pairing with dark chocolate or caramel, or even by pouring it over ice cream.

Pours a rich, opaque sable with a very thick and rather persistent yellowish-tan head. Nose-filling aroma has tones of chocolate, quality coffee, fresh-cut wood and molasses along with hints of caramel and licorice. Fabulous flavor is rather sweet but not cloying, like mocha made from excellent coffee and fine chocolate. A woody overtone provides a little hoppy bitterness to offset the sweet flavor, and hints of caramel, molasses and licorice round out the lip-smacking flavor. Texture has substantial body and a fair amount of tingle, Finish is fizzy and has chocolate and woody tones. Recommended!

12oz bottle. Pours an opaque brown-black with a big, thick beige head. Sweet, pungent aroma. Big chocolate tones, smooth and silky. Some delicate balancing bitterness. Creamy, mellow mouthfeel. World Class, this beer is phenomenal. Remains drinkable, never overboard with the ABV, thought there is some lingering warmth in the finish. Could really hold itís own with any Belgian Stout. Luscious cocoa notes, dark fruit undercurrents. Great.

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, caramel, vanilla espresso, fig, and a touch of alcohol. It pours a dark brown with a large creamy ran head with good retention. The flavor starts with chocolate and light vanilla. The finish has some espresso, roast, and a touch of alcohol. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a somewhat creamy mouthfeel.

12 oz Bottle. Pour is awfully dark. No light coming through when held up to a lamp. Head is medium and tan, a little fluffy. Nice looking overall. I get a good amount of spiciness from the nose right away. A slower, deep inhale reveals some stout character. A little dark fruit, some roast. Sipping it, the carbonation is a little high in my opinion. I know itís got a Belgian yeast in there but, Iíd have toned it down a notch, personally. Itís more a stout than a Belgian. Itís pretty good though, the flavor is rather fruity. Long finish that coats the tongue, but the lively carbonation distracts. Itís good, it could be great.

Bottled. A dark brown beer with a red shine. The aroma has notes of spices and sweet and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt, soy sauce, and chocolate, leading to a dry and roasted finish.

750 mL bottle shared at the July Santa Cruz tasting. Pours clear darkest brown with red highlights and a fluffy light brown head. Aroma is boozy with dark chocolate and some smokey molasses. A touch of dark fruits too. Flavor has notes of dark chocolate, acidic red fruits, mild prune, and black coffee. Also some chocolate cake and dark caramel as well as a bit of burnt, roasted character. Palate is soft and moussey for such a big stout. Pretty nice beer.
