COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barley, wheat, rye and oats provide the foundation for this big stout. Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, creme brulee. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety mouthfeel mellows to a dry, smoky finish. Such a robust beer stands well by itself, but also makes a wonderful end-note to any rich, indulgent meal. Discover the secret of combining this roasty ale to sweets, by pairing with dark chocolate or caramel, or even by pouring it over ice cream.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2010 Bottle. A - Deep black color with a large, foamy, fluffy, billowy, cafe colored head. Very good retention with a nice foamy lace left. S - Interesting aroma. Earthy, spicy hops and a rye like aroma. Nutty, cocoa, hints of tobacco. Also some dark fruit, especially plum. Roasted malt and chocolate as well. T - Similar to the nose. Plenty of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and spicy and earthy hops and a touch of grassiness (German hoppiness). Some dark fruit, plum and fig. Hints of coffee. A nice stout bitterness. M - Medium body with plenty of carbonation. Bit of a sticky finish. D - Very drinkable stout, especially given the ABV. Very tasty with a great mix of malt and hops. Notes: Really enjoyable stout. Great balance of malt and hops with a nice bitterness. The label says there is English malt, Belgian yeast, and German hops which mix well and are quite tasty. I would definitely recommend this beer.

12-oz. bottle. Nice aroma of dark roasted malt, rhubarb, a bit of a charcoal, and some burnt molasses. Pours a deep black with a two-finger, smooth tan head that retains its shape for quite a while. Very dry roasted taste with biscuit and a definite ash note. A plum favor emerges near the end. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel and extremely dry finish. Good stout, but the over-the-top roasty start hurts it.

Bottle, at Bakgården Både &. It pours a small, dense, light tan head over a pitch black body. The aroma is roasted and sweetish, with coffee and a lightly piney, grassy touch. The flavor is on the sweet side, roasted and coffeeish, with some bitterness trying to bring balance. Full body, some warmth, and quite dry-ish. Lasting finish with the roasted malts and sweetness dominating. Nice. 130520

Nice and roasty aroma with dark chocolate, coffee, sweet caramel, and vanilla. On the palate, there is a roasty, bitter astringency that is nicely balanced out by sweetness on the end. Little to no alchol presence. A very solid stout.
