Barley, wheat, rye and oats provide the foundation for this big stout. Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, creme brulee. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety mouthfeel mellows to a dry, smoky finish. Such a robust beer stands well by itself, but also makes a wonderful end-note to any rich, indulgent meal. Discover the secret of combining this roasty ale to sweets, by pairing with dark chocolate or caramel, or even by pouring it over ice cream.

Pours a deep almost black with a medium bubbly/creamy tan head that laced. Aroma of dark fruits, spicy Belgian yeast, dark chocolate and nuts. Flavor of lots of fruity Belgian yeast character, plums, dark chocolate and caramel.

Bottle given to me as a gift by my parents. Thanks! A: Abyssian black. Mocha head that foams then firms. Lacing. N: Molasses, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, char, and smoke. Some earth and pine. Caramel undertones. T: Smokey, sweet, and bitter. Really pleasant balance. M: Heavy body. Alcohol is present but not unwelcome. O: A complex stout with all sorts of reason to recommend it. Reminds me a bit of the many Dutch concoctions which I’ve had this year; this is very much worth your time. Impressive as it’s not adjunct laden.

Good. Heavy in flavor and mouthfeel. Syrupy. But, not too sweet. But, not too roasty. There are definitely better at this ABV level, but this one is indeed solid.

Bottle. Dark Truth Stout - Fark brown pour with a mocha head. Dark roasted malt aromas. Huge dark roasted malts dominate. Licorice and tangy black coffee lowlights. Average body and mouthfeel. Somewhat bitter.

12 oz bowling pin bottle. Pretty cool label. Inky pour. Huge, stiff tan head. Coffee and slightly creosotic, cashew aroma. Moderately acidic, coffee, soy, sugary, low bittering outside of the roast. Sturdy, oily mouthfeel. I wouldn’t kick this out of bed for eating crackers. ABC Liquors, Betton.

Pours black, with a thick, foamy tan head that settles to a substantial lace - dry cocoa/bakers chocolate hit the nose first, followed by some spicy notes of cinnamon and nutmeg, noticeable rye, peppery character, some notes of molasses far in the back, light hints of smoke and cloves - full carbonation, semi-soft in the mouth - some sweetness up front, but this is fairly dry for the strength - a lot of cocoa, some tobacco - some spicy, slightly bitter rye combines well with some black malt bitterness - notes of licorice/anise, warming spices - touches of smoke around the edges that taste like a product of the yeast - a few other mild, belgian-ish phenols and spiciness - finishes dry, with quite a bit of alcohol warmth - a little too much so - a fairly solid take on a belgian-style stout - it’s just a little too hot in the finish.

Big roasty aroma, dominant. Hints of bittersweet chocolate and chocolate malt. Translucent dark brown color, brown head, seems thin and watery. Roasty, harsh, metallic, astringent mess....ahhhhckk. Lingering harsh bitterness and metal, seems to have been aged on pennies. Few sips in, can not finish this.

Pours a a dark brown with a rich dark tan head. An an unassuming stout aroma. Full in the mouth. Some jagged astringency. Ripe banana, bread, smoke, and earthy notes. Belgian yeast has dominated.

This is an imperial stout for those who prefer balance rather than a weight toward chocolate or toward roasted. Pitch dark, of course, with a chocolatey, mocha, crisp, dry finish. Overall, an outstanding stout.
