COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barley, wheat, rye and oats provide the foundation for this big stout. Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, creme brulee. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety mouthfeel mellows to a dry, smoky finish. Such a robust beer stands well by itself, but also makes a wonderful end-note to any rich, indulgent meal. Discover the secret of combining this roasty ale to sweets, by pairing with dark chocolate or caramel, or even by pouring it over ice cream.

Wow! Very full-bodied, deep, dark fruit flavors of fig or plum and a bit of espresso as well. A tad bit of chocolate detected. Wonderful as a dessert by itself or even an entree’ beer! A stand-alone beverage that doesn’t need any accompaniment and has an incredibly complex body. Filling and satisfying.

Nice and roasty aroma with dark chocolate, coffee, sweet caramel, and vanilla. On the palate, there is a roasty, bitter astringency that is nicely balanced out by sweetness on the end. Little to no alchol presence. A very solid stout.

Pours black with small brown head that leaves a few lines of lacing. The aroma is dark roasted malt. The taste is similarly dark roasted malts with notes of chocolate and tobacco. It finishes with a mild lingering bitterness. It has a full body and a rich, creamy texture.

Moving out of KS rate-a-poolza. 12oz bottle poured into the old school Blvd goblet glass. Bottled on the 43rd day of 2013. Best by 02/12/15. Purchased out of fridge in store.

Pours damn black into the goblet with a small yet long lasting tan head. Aroma is strong and packed with many elements. I get strong bitterness both from the hops and malts. That is encased in a strong oily prune character (my understanding is that this is due to a lot of dark malts). Then a strong tobacco. But the spoiled prune character is strongest. The spoiled fruits picks up light fruity (orange) aspects as the beers keeps warming. Flavor is very strong on bitterness, particularly a long bitter aftertaste, really sticks around. There is a small burst of chocolate sweetness right before the strong bitterness kicks in. A light dark bread dough character throughout. Well attenuated, sweet but not sugary. Nice velvety mouthfeel, slick on the tongue yet a little felt carbonation. I am not the biggest fan of the bitterness and a lot of malt character, I prefer one way or the other. I like all the other aspects of the beer though.
