Barley, wheat, rye and oats provide the foundation for this big stout. Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, creme brulee. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety mouthfeel mellows to a dry, smoky finish. Such a robust beer stands well by itself, but also makes a wonderful end-note to any rich, indulgent meal. Discover the secret of combining this roasty ale to sweets, by pairing with dark chocolate or caramel, or even by pouring it over ice cream.

Purchased 12 oz. bottle from Top Cellars Wine and Spirits in Olathe, KS with a "best by" date of 11/9/14 and served in an English pint glass. Pours black but clear, not murky; produces a very large frothy dark tan head. As carbonation dissipates, head turns much creamier and eventually rocky with a very long duration and good lacing. The nose is moderately malty with chocolate and a toasted smell. Also able to pick up light citrusy hops with just a tinge of a medicinal odor. Overall very pleasant. Initial roasted chocolatey flavor is moderate, slightly sweet but not too strong from a pour this dark. Finish starts sweet but ends up dry with a slight smokey taste. Body is fairly full with a nice creamy mouthfeel and smooth finish in the throat with just a slight bit of alcohol. Although the beer is very carbonated when first poured, the carbonation quickly leaves and it becomes fairly still and almost flat, similar to a draught stout. Overall a great beer.

A 12 fl oz bottle with a best by date of 24th February 2017, and poured into a snifter glass. It poured a pitch black colour with a one finger tanned head that dissipated quickly but left some nice lacing. Aromas of roasty coffee, chocolate, crème brûlée, caramel, some dark fruits like plum and fig and a touch of smokiness. Tastes similar to the aroma except the dark fruits and char smokiness are more prominent whereas the roasty coffee and chocolate notes are more in the background. There is also some bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied with moderate to low carbonation and a dry finish. Overall this was an interesting Imperial Stout. Body was a lighter than I prefer and carbonation perhaps a tad too high. But still definitely worth a try.

Bottle from Beer Cartel 061016. Hints of smoke and chocolate are the first things that you notice with this beer, apart from the deep space black colour. This is an awesome beer that sits in the mouth and leaves a long slightly burnt aftertaste in the mouth.

6 oz. from a 12 oz. bottle; from Old Town. Aroma: Moderate fig jam; moderate coffee roast; light chocolate fudge; light molasses. Appearance: Dark garnet brown with very soft carbonation holding up a wispy tan head. Flavor: Strong fig and molasses initially; roast and chocolate thereafter but in a more dried-out way; the finish has a touch of smoke. Palate: Full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, abrupt finish. Overall: Quite good all around; I like that the sweetness/booze level were both kept well in check; the fruitiness here also reminds me a bit of foreign stouts, which I enjoy.
