3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tasted 7/18/10. 750ml Cork and Cage. 2010. Best by 01/13. Opaque with a dark brown hue. Finger width of dense khaki head. Aromas of dark chocolate and fudge. Earthy malts and grassy hops. Full bodied with a huge palate. Pronounced coffee astringency. Bitter chocolate and grassy, citrus hops. Subtle candy sweetness and nuances of dark fruit. Super dry finish that holds a lingering tingling sweetness. The initial malt flavor is dark coffee, bittersweet chocolate and sweet breads. A subtle banana ester opens up somewhere in the middle of the bottle as it warms. Big roasted malts and a big bitter astringency. Decent kick of alcohol hits you late. A fine sipper from top to bottom! Solid!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours very dark brown to black with a thick mocha head that settles to a thick ring and leaves some sudsy lace. Multi-layered nose involves toasted malt, dark fruit, figs, cherries, leather, dark chocolate, spice. Quite sweet flavor, pretty bitter also, slightly tart. Full bodied, viscous yet fairly actively carbed, slippery, with a toasty, spicy, and tart finish. A lot going on here, but it’s well balanced and plenty nuanced. The Belgian twist makes this unique.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Falska från systembolaget. Svart med ljusbrunt skum. Rostad doft med lakrits, choklad och torkad fruk. Smak av lakrits och kaffe och choklad. Något bitter och aningen spritig. Ganska lätt i munnen. Ingen tjock historia. Måttligt imponerad.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours nearly opaque with nominal head and lace, the aroma is malt and coffee and chicory, maybe some chocolate. More of that in the flavor, and the smokey malt quality was enjoyable, but the label boasted of other flavors I’d notice that I just didn’t pick up on (Creme brulee? Really? OK, sure, whatever.) This was a really tasty stout, but there are a ton of really tasty stouts out there. That can be both a good and a bad thing.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Wow. Oily black pour with a thick creamy head. Dense lacing, and a multi-faceted nose. Velvety texture and a wallop of an ABV. Absolutely terrific.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle pour. Dark black with huge beige head, lots of which sticks to the glass. Aroma of roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is roasted malts, bitter chocolate with a hint of sweetness, some plum and dark fruits. Creamy mouthfeel. Lots of nice carbonation. This stout is dark and complex, both bitter and sweet. Dry finish. Chocolate aftertaste where the sweetness comes through. Very nice.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black pour, tiny tanned head. Lots of barley and oats on the nose. Hints of burnt toast. Flavors are wildly different for a big stout with the Belgian yeast in the back. Big, toasty and roasty, hints of fig and plum, coffee and cocoa, with a really smooth yet mildly bitter finish. Yum!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
355 ml bottle at Whiskey Bar, Oslo. Pitch black. Nice licorice aroma with roasted malts and dark chocolate and coffee. Smooth oily texture. Clearly a strong, hoppy and bold beer, but soft malty flavours and a stout roasted backbone. Sweet malts, but with enough roastedness and floral hops to balance. A really nice imperial stout with wonderful things happening.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz Bottle. The beer pours to a black color with a thin tan head. The aroma is strong with toasty barley, caramel, coffee, some slight chocolate notes to it. The taste is slightly bitter but also slightly sweet. The beer has nice light carbonation & has a great balance for an Imperial Stout. Overall a very good beer.
