4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 bsp77 (724) - Minnesota, USA - SEP 5, 2011Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Snifter. Enjoy by 4/27/13.
Appearance: Near black with very thick tan head that leaves lot of bubbly lacing.
Aroma: Musty, dank and fruity with plum, molasses, spicy hops, chocolate and a touch of banana. Not too much roasted character in the aroma.
Taste: Not as Belgian as the aroma, although there is still a decent amount of plum. Fairly strong roasted characteristics of bittersweet chocolate and chocolate. Nice spicy hops on the finish, along with a long roasted bitterness.
Palate: Moderately high carbonation, medium to full body, very dry finish. Feels more effervescent than smooth and creamy (although it is that as well), belaying the Belgian yeast.
Overall: I am really a fan of Belgian Imperial Stouts (need that added as a style), and I seem to enjoy them more than most since I always have big positive rDevs on these. Loads of flavor, but not quite as heavy as a standard RIS.

Nice and roasty aroma with dark chocolate, coffee, sweet caramel, and vanilla. On the palate, there is a roasty, bitter astringency that is nicely balanced out by sweetness on the end. Little to no alchol presence. A very solid stout.

Moving out of KS rate-a-poolza. 12oz bottle poured into the old school Blvd goblet glass. Bottled on the 43rd day of 2013. Best by 02/12/15. Purchased out of fridge in store.
Pours damn black into the goblet with a small yet long lasting tan head. Aroma is strong and packed with many elements. I get strong bitterness both from the hops and malts. That is encased in a strong oily prune character (my understanding is that this is due to a lot of dark malts). Then a strong tobacco. But the spoiled prune character is strongest. The spoiled fruits picks up light fruity (orange) aspects as the beers keeps warming. Flavor is very strong on bitterness, particularly a long bitter aftertaste, really sticks around. There is a small burst of chocolate sweetness right before the strong bitterness kicks in. A light dark bread dough character throughout. Well attenuated, sweet but not sugary. Nice velvety mouthfeel, slick on the tongue yet a little felt carbonation. I am not the biggest fan of the bitterness and a lot of malt character, I prefer one way or the other. I like all the other aspects of the beer though.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 stefannilssons (789) - SWEDEN - MAY 1, 2013
Den inleder med en skön arom, smaken är komplex med rostade, lätt syrliga och fruktiga toner. Slutsats: jag är inte besviken men jag hoppades nog på lite mer ändå.
