COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Double-Wide I.P.A. uses Columbus and Magnum hops for both bittering and aroma with Chinook hops added in the whirlpool. It is dry hopped with generous amounts of Cascade, Centennial, and Chinook hops. The resulting beer has a hop forward aroma, redolent of peach and apricot. The assertive flavor bursts with the citrus qualities of blood orange and lemon with a slight caramel malt backbone to balance the intense hop flavor. There is little restraint in the flavor of this beer; it is certainly not for the pedestrian palate.

Poured from a 750 bomber into a regular glass. Deep red amber color with a massive tan head. Good lacing. Smells of caramel malt, a little hop bitterness and alcohol. Taste is again malt forward with caramel and a little citrus. Very smooth and easy to drink. Solid.

Bottle thanks to peterhazelton. This beer has lost much of its hoppy aroma after 6 months (bottled on 10/6/12) so this may be a disappointing rating. Pours a reddish orange with a light tan frothy head. Slightly thin in the mouth, no real hop backbone just some bittering. Disappointing.

The appearance of this beer is very beautiful with the fusion of an orangeish ruby color, hazy opacity, and dark, medium-grain sediment floating throughout the glass. The aroma is hoppy without being in your face at all; in fact, the scent is nearly subtle, but the taste is bold with a strong (not mild yet not overwhelming) bitter flavor coming through alongside a very subtle sweet quality, which combines nicely with the palate’s fusion of a slick texture, average carbonation, long bitter finish, and a medium body.

Bottle. Pours hazy orange with a large off-white head. Moderately sweet caramel aroma with fruit (peaches?) and pine/grass hops. Fruity and caramel flavor followed by pine/citrus/grass hops. Nice hop finish. Smooth and nicely balanced.

Very good DIPA, that surprisingly was over shadowed this evening. Any other night this would be the one of, if not the best beer of the evening. Lots of residual sweetness, very east coast, but enough powerful orchard and tropical fruits to balance it out. A nice sipping IPA.

An excellent DIPA. A wonderful citrus front-end along with fresh grapefruit combined with the right amount of Malt backbone along with the nice alcohol punch makes this a very good brew Thumbs up!!

Det här var en trevlig öl med en bastant och dov beska. Smaken bär mycket fruktiga toner b.l.a. persika och grapefrukt, kroppen är stabil och jag upplever den som någorlunda balanserad.

12oz bottle. Beautiful pour. Hazy, rosy dark amber with a three finger head of fine beige bubbles. The aroma is both tropical fruit, and pine with fresh pineapple, vanilla, and golden syrup notes. Starts out like it could be a hop bomb, but settles down into a well balanced mix of citrus, and pine followed with some nice caramel malt notes, and some interesting but faint notes of molasses and smokiness in the bitter floral finish. Thumbs up!

Pours a cloudy mango skin orange with one finger of sandstone tan head. Nose is interesting, bright citrus and a vinous character collide. Light resinous notes as well. Muddled, bitter upfront and a waxy astringency. Sharp with some booze. Light citrus zest showing through. Muddled is best way to put it. Some resinous notes on the finish.

Pours a cloudy, dark amber body with lots of sediments of all sizes and colours, I can’t help thinking that this looks a bit too dirty and home-brewed. The head however is quite large, creamy, very light-brown and laces the glass well, so it’s still sort of tempting to take a sip. The aroma is strong, but not intense as I think the aroma of a perfect (D)IPA should be. It’s heavy hoppy with lots of ripe tropical fruits together with a caramel backbone. The fruits are a bit fresher than the heavy, overripe fruits I often find in DIPAs. The taste is moderate sweet and heavy bitter. The flavours are strong with tropical fruits, grapefruit, berries, resin and lots of caramel. Unfortunately there are also some far too obvious and quite stinging alcohol notes that mess up the flavour profile, and leave the finish too alcoholic. Apart from the biting alcohol the mouthfeel is pleasant, with a medium body, oily texture and moderate carbonation (i.e. somewhat higher carbonation level than the average DIAP). A good DIPA, but would like more intense aroma and flavours, and less obvious alcohol.
[75 cl bottle, batch 12363, shared with Rikke & Tor, enjoyed 5 months before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Storo, Oslo]
