3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle poured. Brownish red color with an off white head that lingers. Smells hop strong with some citrus. Tastes of dry hops countered with a citrus sweetness. Good and strong IPA for hopheads only

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a cloudy copper color with a finger and a half length, white head. Not sure what the commercial description is getting at, all the aroma offered me was resin and butterscotch. Real malty on the tongue, but not sweet. Had a nice, but not overpowering bitterness to it. Was a bit bigger than the average Imperial IPAs out there. This is the least impressive beer I have had from the Smokestack Series.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
One of the more under-whelming beers I’ve had in a while. I had higher hopes; this just might be old but there is no date code on the bottle. Cardboard aroma, cloudy, out of balance and thin.

Ar: Candied orange, lemon, some pine resin.
Ap: Deep amber-orange, hazy - big rocky off-white head with great retention and a thick and rocky cap of foam.
T: Medium-sweet and a big blast of orange up front - high bitterness - spicy - pine and lemon - candied orange and caramel toward the end - long bitter finish with lots of pine and grapefruit.
P: Medium-full body with high carbonation - finish is dry.
O: Big and bright 2XIPA - lots of great hop flavor, and a solid, but not overwhelming, malt backbone. Very nice.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Malt forward aroma. Amber body with floatillas. Thin, lasting off white head. Excellent lace. Strong alcohol but in a good way. Good balance that vears more toward malt than most other double IPAs. Excellent.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Mahogany color, cloudy, moussy head. Aromatics are in general a bit subdued, disappointingly. Lemon and grapefruit pith flavors dominate, as well as apricot. Not as resiny or piney as many other DIPA’s. Nice acidity that enhances a berry-like fruitiness. Some caramel, but it is (rightfully) backgrounded. Medium body without the oiliness that many hoppy beers have. Fairly clean dry finish, with just a touch of bitterness lingering. Alcohol does not stand out, which makes it insidiously easy to drink. Overall a fine IPA, one of the best I’ve tried. What makes it stand out is the tartness that helps round out the flavors.
