3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 steview (1011) - San Francisco, California, USA - AUG 28, 2008
quite a creamy version of the style--and it looks almost like a quad, with such a nice and rocky tan head; pine, tropical fruits and peels, smooth malt backing with sharp hops gives an interesting paradox for an interesting beer that is both calm and sweet, and intense and bitter--good balance, and ironically, wish it had less IBUs.

Bottled from Bev4Less. Dark hazy amber color upon pouring. Sweet aroma with some citric hoppiness. Somewhat fruity. Fairly spicy hoppiness. Balanced with some sweetness and malts. A little richer and more roasty than your standard SoCal IPA.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 marchcow (664) - Coralville, Iowa, USA - AUG 25, 2008
Bottle from HyVee in Coralville. Meaty hops aroma with floral and citrus. Slight caramel aromas. rich thick head with dark orange semi-transparent body. Flavor is strong hops, some woody smokiness and a little salt. Malt is lightly evident. Nicely balanced between sweet and dry with an almost chocolaty flavor on the finish. I really like the flavors overall as they appeal to my particuliar tastes, with a good lingering finish. Palate is solid without being too heavy. Very good.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Pawola22 (3180) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 24, 2008
750 ml bottle from Lukas Liquor Superstore.
Pours a very hazy reddish auburn with a big, creamy, foamy off-white head. It sticks around forever and leaves a nice lacing. Lots of aroma. Sweet caramel malts with lots of citrus hop smells. Some orange along with a peachyness. Just a hint of alcohol smell. Flavor is very sweet and citrusy. The alcohol hint resembles a liqorice flavor. Medium bodied. Finishes dry with a lingering bitterness that is not overpowering whatsoever. Very nice. Warming on the way down. Overall, not the hoppiest double IPA, but a very nice change of pace from the bigger IPAs I’m used to. It reminds me more of a Belgian style IPA in that its complexity lies in more than just the hops.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 alexanderj (3082) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - AUG 23, 2008
Bottle; really nice aroma; pine and citrus predominantly; some fruit and caramel. Really good aroma for the style. Color was a hazy bit of orange; creamy, off white head. Flavor was really good; somewhere between an IPA and DIPA. Good caramel backbone, that provided some balance. Fruity hops with pine and citrus. Alcohol well hidden. Not too overly bitter in the bite at the end. After taste was far from great. Overall it was a good to very good example of the style.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Headbanger (2488) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - AUG 22, 2008
750ml bottle(batch D7292)-Poured a cloudy orangish amber body with a nice two finger tight white head. Aroma of hops, citrus, and more hops. Taste is of hops, malt, caramel, and some citrus. This medium to full bodied brew is fairly well balanced and quite drinkable.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 GeneralGao (3614) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - AUG 21, 2008
750ml bottle. Poured a hazy dark orange color. The head was thick, fluffy, and off white with good retention and lacing. Pleasant aroma of pine sap, apricot, orange zest, and subdued caramel. Fairly effervescent and medium bodied. Dry with moderate bitterness. The flavor is pretty much as advertised in the commercial description. Lots of citrus fruit, less malty caramel. There was also some apricot and alcohol. Solid, but not quite a top tier IIPA in my mind.
