Aroma: The aroma has some grapefruit and pine hops, roasted malts, and toasted rye bread
Appearance: Pours a dark brown color with a foamy brown head and some drippy lace
Flavor: Tastes lightly sweet, with lots of roasted/toasted rye mats, and a medium bitter hoppiness
Palate: The body is medium-plus, it has average carbonation, and a dry, tingly finish
Overall Impression:
This is a tasty Black IPA, or Cascadian Dark, or whatever you want to call it. I enjoyed it. The rye component works well in this one. I found it to be both drinkable and on style.

On tap at Sam’s, Durham. Thanks also to hopsleeroy for splitting a bottle at the Omani Feast Day! Not on record as being a hater of this style, though it certainly has never inspired *too* much enthusiasm. This one was pretty damn tasty though. Espresso with lemon peel in the nose, bitter hops and fruit that knows its place. Nothing ashy or ill-considered in the taste, a genuine hop bomb with meaningful dark accompaniment: toasted malts, mild rye spice, and a lengthy bitter finish.

Nice citrus and roasted malt. Amazing balance between sweet roasted malts and piney citrus hops. Finish is nice bitterness

Bottled, from Systembolaget. Near black rich firm head. Rich licorice and grapefruit. Mid sweet with medium body and well rounded mouthfeel. Feels light and aromatic, mildly roasty plenty of grapefruit. Quite bitter finish.

Black pour with fairly tall frothy off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, light hops and citrus. Taste is coffee bitter with subtle sweetness. Lingering hoppy finish. Light to medium body, fairly creamy with average carbonation.

Big hoppy roasty rye filled nose, and transfers right over to a very smooth and creamy-like body and flavor. Just thick enough, and not too thin. Good stuff.

Bottle, 05/04/2013. Pours black, towering frothy off-white head resides to a nice frothy surface, lacing left on the way down. Aroma is fruity grapefruit and piney hops, melds smoothly into pleasant chocolate notes, mild roast and rye around the edges. Taste is sharp piney bitterness, touch of citrus, strong dark roast with just enough sweetness coming through to balance, toasted grain in the finish. Enjoyed this one.

Good stuff. A bit thin but full of flavor with spicy rye and great resiny hop bite that lingers a bit. Some ash and tar flavors detract a bit but very good.

Pours pitch black with a small tan head nose hoppy citric nose lots of floral notes and lite roast moderate chocolate flavors are lite oine lite citrus with roasty char underneath it all palate is somewhat lite body long lingering finish of pine and roast a very good black ipa one of the better ones very decent
