Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the root cellar, along comes Grainstorm, a big, wet wallop to the senses. Dark clouds gather on the horizon of your glass. A high-pressure system of pungent hops collides with a stationary front of barley, oats, wheat, and rye. The forecast: a monsoon of flavor with surges of roasty malt, microbursts of fruity notes, and a chance of golfball-sized hail. The extended outlook calls for unseasonably pleasant enjoyment.

Excited when purchased @ Total Wine in Chapel Hill, NC. Huge, creamy, lacy, coffee-colored head. Great aroma. Roasted, malty front. Hints of citrus, mainly grapefruit. Consistent taste throughout. Slightly bitter end. First taste did not live up to (my self promoted) hype. Enjoyed the beer, not as much as I had hoped or as much as others.

Nice creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly roasted, dark malts, hops, rubber, caramel, coffee, leafs, hay, pine needles, licorice. Taste is hops, dark malts, grass, wet leafs, burnt caramel, rubber, alcohol, pine needles. Longlasting bitterness, slightly "harsh". Fair enough, I’ve had better BIPA’s.

Very good smell of this beer. But it is not the taste. It is incredibly boring and dull. The aftertaste is also boring and a little too thin. Had it tasted the same as it had smelled it anywhere really good. Follow me @ Kung av öl / King of Beer @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

750ml, dark pour, higher carbonation, bubbly head. Decent roast, active mouthfeel, ok bitterness. Too carbonated for me, decent flavor, not great palate IMO

Varför slösa bort en sån här öl på mig? Har mycket svårt för den här tramsiga stilen. Skänker bort det som är kvar i glaset

Dark black brown but translucent edges. Floral slightly dank hops and burnt dark roast malt nose. Taste follows. Very nice balance even tension between the hops and roast malt bitterness. Nails the style for my money.

Sweet roast malt plays second to bitter hops. Complex malt notes but not quite integrated with hops. Pleasant sweet roast nut aroma is mild.

Pours blackish brown with a large, rapidly diminishing foam head. Aroma is roasted grain with fruity notes along with some honey and spices. Taste is slight coffee, lightly roasted unsalted almonds, some citrusy notes. Quite subdued but well balanced! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle: Pours a very dark brown with a medium frothy tan head that is fully lasting. Sweet malty aroma has a burst of rye and pine with grain notes. Malty flavor is sweet and roasty with hints of grapefruit and fruit notes. Has a creamy texture with a spicy mouthfeel and a mild bitterness in the finish. Delicious!

Serving: 750 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a very dark brown with a frothy tan head. The nose jumps right out at you with notes of rye, slight resin and citrus notes, and a little toasted malt. The taste is a nice blend of the various malts with a bit of pine and grapefruit rind to even out the slightly roasted sweetness. Medium to full body with average carbonation. A deliciously different brew.
