3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber---->tulip. Pours a deep deep brown with a huge fluffy beige head and great lace. Great tropical fruit aroma mixed with some roasted malt. First thing that hits the tongue is spicy rye followed by a hop bitterness. Nicely carbonated smooth palate. Heard this one was meh, but I disagree.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hops galore! Pours extremely dark, almost opaque brown with a big dark cream-colored head that sticks around for a long time. The smell of great grapefruity hops is very strong with a bit of a metallic hint to it. The flavor is more of that grapefruit-like hop overload. I'm usually a stout beer kind of guy, and I'd definitely say that IPAs are among my least favorite beers, however, this was actually pretty good. It goes down nice and smooth, and you just get left with even more hops on the palate to linger for a pretty moderate amount of time. Not too short, not too long, just enough of a finish to last until you want to take another sip. Overall, pretty satisfying IPA with a very strong grapefruit-like hop aroma, flavor, and finish.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Pours dark with a mocha-ish head. Not a particularly strong aroma, but what’s there is fresh. Smooth taste and not even sort of hoppy. Great beer.

Close your eyes and you would not believe this is a black IPA. Nice mouthfeel. It’s a very busy beer, lots going on. Nice whiff of rye and pine. Would have liked more aroma, however. Very nice BIPA.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours mahogany-tinged black into a shaker. Mocha head with excellent retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Chocolate and pumpernickel aromas. Soft with chocolate and soy upfront turning to resin and rye in the lasting finish.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark cola brown with generous off white head. Rye on the noise with some grass, wheat, hoppy pine, horse blanket. Salty hop bite with a grainy wheat with rye finish. It could use a tiny bit of sweet to balance it but overall a fairly interesting taste that gets better after your taste buds get accustomed.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Head is initially large, frothy/creamy, brown, fully lasting.
Body is dark brown to black.
Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, dark chocolate), lightly to moderately hoppy (grapefruit, resin).
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, velvety/creamy texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic.
I gotta say the flavor balance and mouthfeel are excellent especially considering the style...non-abrasive and clean, with the right amount of bitterness to counteract the residual sugars, and a delightful fluffy mouthfeel. Looks great too, with a large and lasting billowing head. Sadly, the nose is pretty simple and uninspiring, both in the malt and hop departments...non-offensive and reasonably pleasant, but rather mild and lifeless. With a more interesting nose, this could have been truly excellent.
