COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the root cellar, along comes Grainstorm, a big, wet wallop to the senses. Dark clouds gather on the horizon of your glass. A high-pressure system of pungent hops collides with a stationary front of barley, oats, wheat, and rye. The forecast: a monsoon of flavor with surges of roasty malt, microbursts of fruity notes, and a chance of golfball-sized hail. The extended outlook calls for unseasonably pleasant enjoyment.

Bottle, courtesy dfroms, thanks! Pours light black/ruby with a tan head, good retention/some lace. Aroma is citrus/pine hops, roast, light smoke, spicy rye. Taste is bitter, spicy rye, roast, citrus. Palate is lively carbonation, slick, bitter finish.

Pours black with huge, dense khaki head that reduces but never really goes away and leaves a nice film lacing. The aroma has very strong grapefruit and citrus hops notes. The taste followed the aroma with great grapefruit IPA flavor with some roasted malt and rye in the background. It has a pretty strong bitter finish. I is full bodied and thick with some light carbonation.

Bottle. Pours a black color with off white head. Hoppy, citrus, grassy, grapefruit aromas. Slight roasty, rye, citrus, hoppy flavor. Pretty good, but not your typical black ipa.

750mL thanks to dfroms! Pours clear, deep ruby mahogany, medium tan foam. Rocky. Nose is savory, smokey, melon hops, fruity hoppy. Taste is tangy, bitter, spicy, dark chocolate. Thick, dense, dark chocolate. Rich, bitter, really nice.

Pours black. Can’t see any light through this one... Not jet black. Just black. Poured this one very gently into a tulip glass, yet it still develops a huge pillowy beige head. The rye comes is very forward, comes through immediately, along with some grapefruit, and if you bury your nose in the glass, just a faint whiff of windex. Initial sip is grain, dry rye, herbal hops, hints of spice, a little chocolate, and a little coffee. Mouthfeel is really light. Not a dense beer at all. Aftertaste is bitter, herbal hops.

Pours brown black with a mound of thick froth. The aroma is musty grains and a light grapefruit and wet blanket. The body is robust and matches the filling carbonation crafting a broad space for more modestly displayed flavors. Notes of mellow sweet grapefruit and some orange peel, a herbal earthy hop bite with the softly appropriated roasted barley and rye. There is a hint of peppercorn and lingering tingle of grainy spice but it blends well in the myriad hops and earthy grain mash up. More bitter as it warms, not my bag totally but boulevard makes it all make sense. Really solid brew for style, bright hops dark grains.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, opened with a nice pop, dark brownish black pour with nice lasting tan head, aroma brought notes of dark cocoa powder, grass, orange peel, nice roast, hints of spice mixing with rye pretty well, nice fruity notes as well, slight pine as well. Taste is a mix of roast, cocoa, nice chocolate mixing into some grass, pine, orange peel, hints of nice earth and grainy notes, slight rye comes through but its fairly hidden, finishing slightly bitter and slightly roasted. Smells great, taste falls a bit short.

750ml bottle. Aroma of roasty, toasted grains, pumpernickel bread, mild chocolate and faint dark sweetness, along with a lightly citric, fresh, fruity hop profile. Deep, dark brown in color, nearly black, with a hugely frothy, lasting, ivory head and gobs of lacing as well. Flavor begins with a mild dosage of hop bitterness, this increasing as it mingles with the toasty, grainy, very gently sweet, dark malts and spicy, fruity rye, and finishing with a blend of dark chocolate, citrus, faint pine and fading peppery notes late. Plenty of fine effervescence on the palate, with a dry and lightly resinous feel, body is medium-full. An interesting and rather subtle take on the style -- does not possess overwhelming bitterness or any truly massive, powerful qualities, seeming to aim for drinkability above all that.

Lovely cola color, and enticing aroma. As to the flavor the dark rye and hops pair beautifully. I need to rush out and stock up on this gem while I still can.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is lots of citrusy hop. Flavor is light sweetness, spicy notes, and a bunch of hoppiness. This seems to meld together well, might be the best Black IPA I’ve had.
