Aroma is citrus, yeast, dark malts and a hint of tropical fruit. The flavor is dark malts, tropical fruit, mild hop resin notes and a very bitter and tangy finish.

At Avery Strong Ale Fest 2013--clear dark dark brown with a thin rocky beige head. Nose is pretty sharp with spicy rye and spicy bitter hop notes--lots of pine and bitter herbal tones in the nose. Flavor is slightly more forgiving with dark roasty sweetness and a touch of caramel, but is still dominated by hops, with lots of sharp lemony pine and bitter grapefruit, as well as a strong spicy rye presence. Not up my alley.

Black with massive, fine-bubbled, foamy, beige head / Soft nose of fresh cut pine, weed, soap, roast barley / Light to medium body, a hint watery, lively carbonation, some chew, dry, fine balance and bitter finish / Mild flavors of roast grain, weed, rye spice, pine, soap, with notes of chocolate, grapefruit / A very mild ipa for an 8% abv, somewhat lacking in fruit, but nicely balanced and easy drinking.

Oh yeah! Says the KoolAid man.
Deep, dark nutty british looking, but west coast hoppy tasting but with undercurrents of wheathy, grainy, goodness.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
[Bottle] Pours dark brown with a creamy beige head. Aroma is cocoa, rye, nice hop presence. Taste is moderate bitterness, solid rye, some roasted malt--becomes a little sweeter and some fruit (subdued blackberry?) shows up at times. Overall, didn’t blow me away, but really solid and enjoyable to drink.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours black with some streaks of redish brown on the edges of the glass. Big off-white rocky head that doesn’t want to dissipate. Lacing sticks to my Boulevard tulip like sap to the trunk of a maple. The aroma is saturated with roasted malts, coffee, rye bread, cardamom and licorice. The flavor is rye throughout with hints of roasted malts. Not the most balanced beer, but pleasant none the less. Medium bodied with a velvet mouthfeel. Nice beer.
