4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Couple of 12 oz. on tap at Alewife. Black with a lasting ring of creamy foam. Big nose of spicy citrus, toast and a touch of mocha. Tastes of fresh orange and grapefruit, caramel, spicy dark bread, resin and a touch of coffee and chocolate. Medium body is smooth with medium carbonation and has a very nice balance and drinkability.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a deep black with a very hefty, tan creamy head that remains elevated. Aroma nose has a lot of grapefruit and orange citrus from the hops followed by mild rye notes, toasted barley and light roasted malt bitterness. Flavor starts with a lot of grapefruit/orange citrus, light pine notes from the hops but this quickly becomes a bitterness that combines very smoothly with the caramel sweet, light rye spice and smooth toasted malt note that comes late. The body is very nice with a modest/hefty feeling, lots of residual sugar, light/modest alcohol warmth and modest amount of carbonation to deliver the aroma. Overall a really well crafted brew. Well balanced, smooth, creamy and a great paring between the hops fruity/bitter flavors and the malt sweetness.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared at the Foothills Bottle Share- Thanks for organizing, Mike! Dark brown pour. Fairly earthy nose with slight notes of orange peel and toast. Flavor is slightly toasty with plenty of earthy and citrus notes. Not really getting much roast. More IPA than Black IPA, but still solid.

Bottle to glass. Pours a deep brown color with a frothy tan head and tons of lacing. Aroma is toasted malts, rye, oats, piney hops. Flavor is lots of rye, toasted malt sweetness, some floral hops. Medium body with a lingering nutty rye character. Not too bad.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black pour with a single finger head. Aroma is full of citrus and pine. A little grassy and dank. Full mouth. Taste is full of citrus, mango & some sweetness. Molasses, brown sugar, almost syrupy. Tons of lace. Not overly bitter. This isn’t your typical black IPA but it is very tasty.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This has become my new go-to dark IPA. It is a deep dark pour with a nice mix of floral and subtle grainy aromas. The tastes divide as it crosses your palate, bringing out the subtle rye notes at the end. Keep these coming for awhile!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma is hops, pines, burnt caramel, huge roasted grains and roasted malts. Appearance is black with a purple tint. Two-finger head yet, recedes very quickly. Nice lacing. Grain Storm seems to be a fitting name because grains are the biggest overtone on this. Upfront, bitter hops, herbs and grains. Mid palate brings the roast with burnt caramel, molasses oil, leafy hops and a biscuit malt base. Finish is bitter chocolate, roasted malts and caramel and fresh grapefruit. Overall, I was expecting a bit more but it is very balanced. I feel like the grain overtones actually overdo any complexity there might have been. Nevertheless it is a very solid brew. A- rating.
