COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the root cellar, along comes Grainstorm, a big, wet wallop to the senses. Dark clouds gather on the horizon of your glass. A high-pressure system of pungent hops collides with a stationary front of barley, oats, wheat, and rye. The forecast: a monsoon of flavor with surges of roasty malt, microbursts of fruity notes, and a chance of golfball-sized hail. The extended outlook calls for unseasonably pleasant enjoyment.

75cl corked bottle from Rayans at cellar temp shared with ck1. Batch number 2012-3. Pours a dark brown with a foamy tan head. Some drops of lace. Aroma has tremendous grassy hops with black patent malts. Exciting . Taste is of spicy grains, sweet toffee, some bittersweet butterscotch. Needed to be colder probably. Medium bodied. Finishes sweetly bitter and very dry. A touch disappointing after the aroma. About in line with typical Boulevard offerings.

Bottle. Pours deep, dark brown with a beatiful, incredibly persistent light tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma is roast and bubblegum (something I love in IPAs but not used to in BIPAs, but it’s welcome). Taste is lightly roasty but very much a traditional IPA with a nice rye spiciness. Very pleasant, but definitely a bit more toward the DIPA side than i was expecting.

Bomber. Surprisingly not to rye. Thin. Nice looks nice head. Still quite an adjustment for rye. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark black brown but translucent edges. Floral slightly dank hops and burnt dark roast malt nose. Taste follows. Very nice balance even tension between the hops and roast malt bitterness. Nails the style for my money.

Had this a beer, bourbon, and bar-b-q fest and it was by far the best brew there. Pours like porter, or thin stout. Smells of citrus and roasty malts. Tastes freaking amazing.

Wow, this is a nice black IPA. Deep brown very spirited pour with off white head and hoppy aroma. Hoppy bitterness hits you first, but then a beautifully roastiness asserts itself, lingering for a bit until just the bitterness remains. Quite complex: in different sips different notes assert themselves. This style is one of my favorites, and this beer is a superb representative thereof! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Big bottle. Taste is a great blend of rye, hops, molasses, grass, grain and charred wood. Well done.

Bottle, 05/04/2013. Pours black, towering frothy off-white head resides to a nice frothy surface, lacing left on the way down. Aroma is fruity grapefruit and piney hops, melds smoothly into pleasant chocolate notes, mild roast and rye around the edges. Taste is sharp piney bitterness, touch of citrus, strong dark roast with just enough sweetness coming through to balance, toasted grain in the finish. Enjoyed this one.
