3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
more from the smoke stack series. dark black with heavy light tan head. Aroma hits with grapefruit at first and a little mango. Taste is a soft maltiness with rye spice. slight smell and taste of being in a woodshop as i roll it in my mouth. Even bitter comes though. Besides the dark color I dont get a lot of roast chocolate malt. More a really good rye IPA

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours brown black with a mound of thick froth. The aroma is musty grains and a light grapefruit and wet blanket. The body is robust and matches the filling carbonation crafting a broad space for more modestly displayed flavors. Notes of mellow sweet grapefruit and some orange peel, a herbal earthy hop bite with the softly appropriated roasted barley and rye. There is a hint of peppercorn and lingering tingle of grainy spice but it blends well in the myriad hops and earthy grain mash up. More bitter as it warms, not my bag totally but boulevard makes it all make sense. Really solid brew for style, bright hops dark grains.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, released today. Aroma is spicy citrus. Beige head with dark brown/ black body. Head is ample. Very different flavor for style. Slight chocolate up front followed quickly by citrus and a spicy rye finish. The body is lighter for style, something I like a lot. Comes off as more of an iPa that happens to be black. Very good.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750mL bottle. Pours a dark brown, nearly opaque with a massive head (like you could put out a chemical fire with it) ridiculous retention -- it didn’t dissipate quickly enough for my impatient beer-drinking self, so I spooned some of it out to get at the elixir underneath. Nose is resinous and piney and some cereal malt (it is called ’grain’ storm after all). Mouth i full bodied and starts of remarkably subtle and smooth, mainly roast and then the hops kick in with a pungent grapefruitiness accented by pine, then some toasted rye bread fading out with a long lingering hoppy bitterness. Like this one a lot. Tell Casey Jones to keep on driving that train, Boulevard.

Dark brown pour with a clingy white head. Spicy rye, roasty malts, and a mild grapefruit hoppyness. Pretty nice

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep brown color, light tanned huge head. Aroma has hints of coffee, mild roast and a floral, zesty twang from the copious amounts of hops used. Taste is bitter, with citrus and hints of alcohol, bone dry with a lasting bitterness. The small amounts of roast is well hidden in the veritable hopstorm. Light to medium body, medium to high carbonation.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep, dark black with huge, huge, huge frothy head (be careful when pouring or this one will wind up all over the counter!). Aroma of hops and grain (rye). Flavor is dominated by the hops combined with roasted grain and a nice, sweet, smooth undertone of malt. Very full mouthfeel with a clean, bitter finish.
