COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the root cellar, along comes Grainstorm, a big, wet wallop to the senses. Dark clouds gather on the horizon of your glass. A high-pressure system of pungent hops collides with a stationary front of barley, oats, wheat, and rye. The forecast: a monsoon of flavor with surges of roasty malt, microbursts of fruity notes, and a chance of golfball-sized hail. The extended outlook calls for unseasonably pleasant enjoyment.

Very good smell of this beer. But it is not the taste. It is incredibly boring and dull. The aftertaste is also boring and a little too thin. Had it tasted the same as it had smelled it anywhere really good. Follow me @ Kung av öl / King of Beer @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Pitch black pour with a eggshell white head. Big chocolate, roasted malt, spicy rye and aromatic piney and earthy hop notes. Spicy chocolate covered coffee beans in the flavor with a piney hop bite in the finish. Nice body and good carbonation. Damn tasty beer.

ansalon (1676) - Stockholm, SWEDEN, SWEDEN - JUN 4, 2013
Pours blackish brown with a large, rapidly diminishing foam head. Aroma is roasted grain with fruity notes along with some honey and spices. Taste is slight coffee, lightly roasted unsalted almonds, some citrusy notes. Quite subdued but well balanced! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sampled at GBWF 2013, from my huge backlog. Completed with bottle rating from home. Dark with a beige head leaving lacing. Aroma: hoppy and fruity with grapefruit, lemon, peach, spices, roasted. Taste: Fruity with peach, strawberry, grapefruit, lemon, pine, spices, some chocolate and licorice. Medium bodied. Very nice.

rarbring (1635) - Linköping, SWEDEN - APR 20, 2013
Aroma: Smelling of bread, pine, resin and soap.
Appearance: A clouded black colored beer. A tan head with good lacing and good curtains.
Taste: Tasting sweet dark bread, pine and grape-fruit peel. Some licorice.
Palate: Low carbonation, a soft texture. A good body with a long dry finish.
Overall: A clever BIPA, smells IPA, tastes half stout, half IPA.
Note: Bottle 650 ml at a De Klomp tasting. Reviewed 2013-04-20.

From the bottle, dark black pour with a frothy off white head, roasty and rye aroma with taste being hoppy and rye forward and a nice citrus bitterness overall. Tatsty and good!

jcos (1600) - Maryland, USA - JUN 17, 2013
Location/Date:Bottle on June 13th split with Dave and Kravitz.

Appearance: Pours a black opaque with light white head.
Aroma: Aroma of faint roasted malt, rye.
Taste: Light bitterness, medium right, light roast, very balanced. Accessible.
Palate:Medium body, smooth, not carbonation, lightly chewy. Really nice.

Summary: A really nice beer, particularly in the palate. Not as bitter as I was expecting, nor as rye laden in the taste, but really nice and well balanced.

Beerenberger (1545) - Fischer, Texas, USA - MAR 31, 2013
The nose is grapefruit and pine with notes of malt. Pours a Coka-Cola brown with a large mostly lasting tan head and some sticky lacing. The taste is much like the aroma. Grapefruit, some pine, hints of malt, rye pepperiness, and a grainy aftertaste. Medium body with medium carbonation. Overall, a mellow black IPA which is very drinkable.
