COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the root cellar, along comes Grainstorm, a big, wet wallop to the senses. Dark clouds gather on the horizon of your glass. A high-pressure system of pungent hops collides with a stationary front of barley, oats, wheat, and rye. The forecast: a monsoon of flavor with surges of roasty malt, microbursts of fruity notes, and a chance of golfball-sized hail. The extended outlook calls for unseasonably pleasant enjoyment.

Black with massive, fine-bubbled, foamy, beige head / Soft nose of fresh cut pine, weed, soap, roast barley / Light to medium body, a hint watery, lively carbonation, some chew, dry, fine balance and bitter finish / Mild flavors of roast grain, weed, rye spice, pine, soap, with notes of chocolate, grapefruit / A very mild ipa for an 8% abv, somewhat lacking in fruit, but nicely balanced and easy drinking.

Draft at taphouse. Pine hops. Somewhat spicy. A tad thickeer than most black ipas. Touch of chocolate on the finish. Respectable black ipa.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is lots of citrusy hop. Flavor is light sweetness, spicy notes, and a bunch of hoppiness. This seems to meld together well, might be the best Black IPA I’ve had.

Corked and caged bottle. Opaque black that doesn’t allow any light through, topped by a large, thick light tan head. Moderate pine nose with underlying musty orange zest, accompanied by graham cracker, burnt marshmallow, and pumpernickel bread. Leathery catcher’s mitt notes up front in the flavor with light bakers chocolate, black pepper, pine tar, grapefruit rind. Moderately bitter balanced by a nicely sweet malt base. A very pleasant surprise.

Big hoppy roasty rye filled nose, and transfers right over to a very smooth and creamy-like body and flavor. Just thick enough, and not too thin. Good stuff.

750ml corked bottle. Pours a dark brown with a huge frothy tan head that you have to wait around for before diving in. Another great brew from Boulevard. Tasty malt sweetness with just the right amounts of ryoe and hop notes. Delicious.

Aroma: Smelling of bread, pine, resin and soap.
Appearance: A clouded black colored beer. A tan head with good lacing and good curtains.
Taste: Tasting sweet dark bread, pine and grape-fruit peel. Some licorice.
Palate: Low carbonation, a soft texture. A good body with a long dry finish.
Overall: A clever BIPA, smells IPA, tastes half stout, half IPA.
Note: Bottle 650 ml at a De Klomp tasting. Reviewed 2013-04-20.

75cl corked bottle from Rayans at cellar temp shared with ck1. Batch number 2012-3. Pours a dark brown with a foamy tan head. Some drops of lace. Aroma has tremendous grassy hops with black patent malts. Exciting . Taste is of spicy grains, sweet toffee, some bittersweet butterscotch. Needed to be colder probably. Medium bodied. Finishes sweetly bitter and very dry. A touch disappointing after the aroma. About in line with typical Boulevard offerings.
