COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the root cellar, along comes Grainstorm, a big, wet wallop to the senses. Dark clouds gather on the horizon of your glass. A high-pressure system of pungent hops collides with a stationary front of barley, oats, wheat, and rye. The forecast: a monsoon of flavor with surges of roasty malt, microbursts of fruity notes, and a chance of golfball-sized hail. The extended outlook calls for unseasonably pleasant enjoyment.

Crackly foamy head that rises like a thundercloud...ominous and dark appearance like the heart of a category 5 tornado. Aroma is rich with grain. The taste lingers with dry rye and a pleasant hoppiness. Light on the palate & refreshing like a thunderstorm after nourishing a field of sunflowers luminescent against a fade of black sky. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma is hops, pines, burnt caramel, huge roasted grains and roasted malts. Appearance is black with a purple tint. Two-finger head yet, recedes very quickly. Nice lacing. Grain Storm seems to be a fitting name because grains are the biggest overtone on this. Upfront, bitter hops, herbs and grains. Mid palate brings the roast with burnt caramel, molasses oil, leafy hops and a biscuit malt base. Finish is bitter chocolate, roasted malts and caramel and fresh grapefruit. Overall, I was expecting a bit more but it is very balanced. I feel like the grain overtones actually overdo any complexity there might have been. Nevertheless it is a very solid brew. A- rating.

EtTuCthulhu (897) - Columbia, Missouri, USA - APR 4, 2014
The color is a clear garnet with a large light tan head, and the aroma is rye with resin and floral hops. The taste is quite bitter, slightly sour, and a touch umami, but the heavy bitterness doesnít linger, which is nice. There is a average carbonation, medium body, slick texture, and a slightly bitter finish.

Pours dark brown almost black, amber tint when held up to light. Big tan head. Citrus, resin, pine aroma with hints of roasted malt, chocolate and rye. Sweet malt start, quickly disappears. Followed by sharp bitter resiny pine flavor and finishes with a roasted malt flavor and a hint of rye. Really enjoy.

Too bitter! Kind of a diluted IPA with hints of rye, wheat, and resinous hop. Flavor has no sweetness and a plain sour malt note. Kind of hard to drink with the flavor and high carbonation combined.

750 ml bottle, best by 11/2014. Pours brown with a huge and growing creamy light tan head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is roast, sweet chocolate malt, rye and piney hops.

The flavor is sweet chocolate malt, spicy rye with big roast piney bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and a little watery.

Overall, a nice black IPA with lots of piney hops, roast and some rye.

Had this a beer, bourbon, and bar-b-q fest and it was by far the best brew there. Pours like porter, or thin stout. Smells of citrus and roasty malts. Tastes freaking amazing.

750ml bottle. Not a huge fan of IPAs but this is not bad. In fact itís pretty good. Itís helping me get used to drinking this kind of beer. Itís dark and rich on the tongue but very hoppy and floral on the finish. Will buy again.

Cola black pour with a huge effervescent tan head when poured from the 750. Nose is lightly malted, mixed hops, and a slight hint of rye. Mouthfeel is great, with a textural crispness. Really spectacular black IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
