Our Harvest Dance Wheat Wine is a celebration of John Barleycorn’s cousin wheat, the great staple crop of Middle America. Wheat wines are a somewhat recent stylistic development, akin to barleywines in strength, but brewed with a large portion of wheat malt, which provides a soft mouthfeel to balance the big body of these warming brews. We add a generous helping of Hallertau and Citra hops, and age the beer on both French and American oak, resulting in a beer that opens up with a warming burst of tropical fruit flavors, adding subtle Sauvignon Blanc notes before rounding slowly to a dry, oaky finish. This is a perfect beer for sharing with friends and family as we gather together for the fall and winter holidays. Pairs well with aged cheeses or seasonal squash and pumpkin dishes.

Thanks to tastybeer for sharing a gem from the Smokestack Series. I’ll have to be careful not to take them for granted since I can pick them up at any time. This may be not an outstanding barleywine but it is relatively affordable and accessible.

Aroma / Appearance - The huge billowing head surges before it collapses to about two fingers height. A coppery base invites more reflection. Wheat bread, hops, and a strong malt bill drive attention to the fact this is not a lightweight beer.

Flavor / Palate - A wheat driven flavor profile warms the palate sip after sip. The hops might have mellowed a bit in time but this still has a punch. Caramel and chocolate wrap up a sweet texture. This is a good deal at $7.49 locally if it hits shelves again.

750ml corked bottle pours a golden orange color with a huge off-white head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is light fruits with some grains and hints of yeast. Taste is a light fruit and grainy malt sweetness with a light spicy hop bitterness finishing with a mild dry white wine finish. Medium bodied with adequate carbonation that tickles the tongue nicely. Overall, this is quite well done, both balanced and tasty. Recommended.

Draft at one mile house NYC . More of a wheat wine then a barley wine. Very nice delicate flavor with a booZy richness

March madness 2015. Aroma is weak but the beer is interesting with a good blend of fruity notes, oak, malt and hops. Well done twist. It is drier than I would expect a wheat wine to be, compared to say aventinus.

March Madness 2015 - I would not consider this a barley wine ale Although it has a few of the same charateristics, it is not malty and tastes very wheaty. It is a wine style, but that is as far as I would go. Nothing offensive about this beer, but since I am not a fan of wheat beers, nothing to write home about either.

Cloudy golden with a thick white head. Aroma is wheat with a bit of barnyard. Flavor is light, what with a relatively bright finish. Very effervescent with a crisp finish.

Total Wine, Fairfax bottle: Pours alightly hazy orange with a white head. Aroma is a good amount of tropical fruit, slight spicy notes, a bit of wood, and a hint of booze. Taste and small is a bit like a Belgian Strong Ale. It be a little sweet. The wood is noticeable. The finish is dry and minerally. Aftertaste is sweet again. Pretty good.

Draft pour at Elliott bay pizza. Pours a golden b orange color with a thin oily head. Very unique barleywine in my opinion. Doesn’t taste strong at all. Soft apples on the aroma. Light, orangey citrus fruit, slightly floral, and a light apple finish. Nice beer. Enjoyed this a ton.
