Like India Pale Ale, the classic Imperial Stouts were originally brewed with high levels of alcohol and hops to withstand the rigors of a long sea journey, not to India but to Imperial Russia and the Baltic States. Our version is an over-the-top riff on the style, with a huge grain bill featuring several kinds of malted barley, wheat, rye, oats, and spelt. Robust grain and coffee flavors are counterbalanced by date and plum notes from the Scottish yeast. To add extra complexity and depth, this Imperial Stout is made up of a blend of freshly brewed beer and several barrel-aged beers, carefully balanced. Za Vas!

2015 edition. Very dark black and thick on the pour. Intriguing acidic cherry aroma with some toffee and sugar. Huge brown head that dissipates extremely slowly. Really nice sweetness on the front with a touch of alcohol on the back. The heat is getting to me after a couple sips

appearance: very dark brown, thick and creamy chocolate milk colored head; rich legs. aroma: big nose full of chocolate, some molasses, a lot of vanilla, a bit of caramel, smoke and raisin. taste: intense dark chocolate, coffee, and treacle, with molasses, vanilla-whiskey-smoke, dark wood. finish: lingering sweet dark chocolate and a decent touch of booze, but not hot. notes:2013 vintage aged in whiskey barrels. Really nice. Full-flavored, big and sweet. Glad I laid it down for a couple years. The boozy edge was smoothed nicely.

750ml corked bottle, 2014 vintage aged in whiskey barrels. Rich bourbon aroma with vanilla, wood and chocolate notes. Pours deep black with large light brown head with excellent retention and lacing. Starts with excellent roasted malt and sweet chocolate flavors to go with a full body and slick rich mouthfeel. Finishes smooth with rich bourbon, vanilla, oak and just a bit of booze. Really nice bourbon stout!

2014 - Aged in Whisky Barrels. Pours a purely opaque black with a heavy and thick tan head than subsides slowly leaving splotches of tan lacing. The nose is rich, heavy and hot with booze. Big barrel and wooden notes with heavy bourbon-esque notes. Very rich and full bodied with a heavy roasted malt bitterness, cocoa, vanilla, light anise-seed. Slick and viscous body. Love this beer with the heavy barrel notes affecting the profile alot. Earthy and warm on the finish with lignering booze and wood.

Bottle. I’ve had the good fortune of having this three times in the past couple of months (closing the lake for the season, at heavylaevy’s, and most recently at TvM’s). Very dark cola-brown, light brown head. Lovely sweet chocolate, light coffee, dark fruits, woody and spicy nuances. There is an acidity at the back of the palate, not really funky, but just enough to elevate this beer from becoming heavy or cloying. A strangely drinkable RIS for its size and sweetness.

A dense, tan head, black body. The smell is molasses, dark sugar and coffee, caramel and chocolate. Roasted malt, caramel, alcohol, coffee and chocolate in the flavor. Slightly bitter too. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Wow. My first of this style. The strong aroma from the first pop of the cap. Darker than anything i have seen. The strong taste of alcohol gives way to a deep intesnse flavor that lasts. Very complex and coffee like. One to savor and with the high alcohol content this one is gonna kick me in the ass a little bit. Def a slow drinker, why did i spend my early drinking years chugging water?

Bottle from craft. Sampled with Dennis Bell and Knick of the Knack. Notes, of dark chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla, a smidge of vino, Earth. Finish was a little on the sweet side and the body was slightly thin, but overall a solid brew.

Pours a back with a touch of rich brown when held to light .... has a dark tan relatively persistent head that leaves lacings once settled. The nose carries roasted barley, coffee and subtle chocolate. The flavor is led by chocolate, maltiness, coffee and roasted barley sitting on a medium-full to full body. This is the 2014 version. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
