COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like India Pale Ale, Imperial Stouts were originally brewed with high percentages of malt and hops to help them withstand the rigors of a long sea journey, not to India but to Imperial Russia and the Baltic States. Our version is an over-the-top riff on the style, with a huge grain bill featuring several kinds of malted barley, wheat, rye, and oats. A portion of the batch has been aged in whiskey barrels, then blended with fresh ale before bottling. Za Vas!

On tap at the Flying Saucer Garland. Poured an opaque jet black with a khaki head and beautiful lacing. Tasted notes of bourbon, oak, roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate, and vanilla esters. Highly complex and the alcohol is deceptively hidden. Major props for this brew!

Strong by not too boozy for a 12% ABV! Very malty toasty chocolate flavor. Thick smooth brew. Too sweet for me though.

750 cc from Wegmanís. Pours hazy and thick jet black with tan head. Some dark malts, cacao, oaky whiskey in the nose. Dense and complex flavor, malty, smooth, with cacao, and some woody and spirit flavor notes.

2014 on draft at Whole Foods Domain. Nose is roasted malts, vanilla and bourbon. Pours a deep black with a quickly dissipating mocha head. Flavor is complex with bourbon and vanilla dominating, and notes of coffee, cocoa and sweet dark roasted malt. Full bodied and creamy with light carbonation and moderate bitterness. High alcohol content is well hidden with no real burn. Very well done barrel aged stout.

2013 Bottle; Pour is murky dark brown / amber with a two fingered, fine bubbled khaki head here. Nice retention - The nose is mineral water, spent grains, moving to roast, and earth. Itís not exactly appealing, honestly. The flavor profile greatly improves on these elements : Dark fruits, feint booze, with chocolate morsels, cake, which moves to bittering hops, more mineral notes, and heavy grains - Itís dry, itís roasty, Itís... a decent take on it , I suppose. I believe itís non blended now... for what thatís worth

Soft whiskey aroma. Lots of dark roasted character. Like how this years is not blended.

Corked 750 mL. Black, very bubbly with a huge mocha colored head. Whiskey, raisin, molasses and oiled leather. Taste is very sweet with a light dry bitter finish. Body is heavier, but feels crisp with carbonation.

2013 vintage served in a tulip. Once corked the beer gives off an immediate vanilla and bourbon odor. The beer pours midnight black with a thick mocha head and nice lacing. Those bourbon and vanilla notes are there as well as coffee, cocoa, and pepper. Really complex and nice. Upon tasting I pick up a lot of roasty flavors. Coffee, cocoa, and oak. The vanilla is there right off the bat as well as some sweet creamy flavors to balance it out. Strangely I can only barely taste any alcohol from the whiskey. The 2 years of aging have seemed to round out the beer well. It is somewhat creamy up front and quickly turns dry as the dark roasted flavors linger on my tongue and in my mouth for a long time. Alcohol burn is not really noticeable at all, but I can feel the 11.8% for sure. This is an outstanding beer that I have wanted to drink for quite a long time and I am glad that I waited. 2 years is perfect for this.

Bomber thanks to RespertFTW. Deep brown with a large, tan head. Chocolate and extra boozy. Sweet, smokey and vanilla.
