Like India Pale Ale, the classic Imperial Stouts were originally brewed with high levels of alcohol and hops to withstand the rigors of a long sea journey, not to India but to Imperial Russia and the Baltic States. Our version is an over-the-top riff on the style, with a huge grain bill featuring several kinds of malted barley, wheat, rye, oats, and spelt. Robust grain and coffee flavors are counterbalanced by date and plum notes from the Scottish yeast. To add extra complexity and depth, this Imperial Stout is made up of a blend of freshly brewed beer and several barrel-aged beers, carefully balanced. Za Vas!

Pours a deep brownish black from the bottle with thin ring of tan brown head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma is soy and roast over a hint of sweet vanilla oak. Taste is more of the vanilla and bourbon, big on the sweetness, wow. Booze is well hidden, but too sweet, nice to be shared.

Growler from the Craft Beer Factory in Marietta. Pours black, with a thick, foamy, tan head. The nose is boozy, with nice oak and vanilla character. The underlying aroma is molasses, toffee, anise and some peat. Very sweet flavor, with just a touch of bitterness. Very heavy body, sticky, warming, and smooth. This is a solid stout, with a great base, and a fantastic bourbon finish. Dangerously drinkable.

750 ml bottle to snifter (2014 vintage). Looks good; a fairly opaque dull, very dark cola with foamy beige head. Smells solid; dark malt, oak, and some mild roast and rye spice. Tastes like it smells with a nice viscous body and a pleasant tingle from the rye spice. The abv is nicely subdued. Enjoyable.

On Tap Black with a full dense lasting light tan head. Awesome chocolaty roasted aroma. Maybe a touch of whisky barrels. Flavor is more of the woody notes,m soft roasted flavors with some soot/ash. Low IBU bite, and nicely attenuated. A little sweet but not slick or heavy. Very nice and pleasant roasted flavors. Really like this.

On tap at the Flying Saucer Garland. Poured an opaque jet black with a khaki head and beautiful lacing. Tasted notes of bourbon, oak, roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate, and vanilla esters. Highly complex and the alcohol is deceptively hidden. Major props for this brew!
