4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
BOTTLE NUMBER 00889 of 11960
Pours black with the slightest ruby tint. Two-finger head of dense, milk chocolate colored, foam. Retention is totally amazing! Excellent super-sticky lacing.
Big, dark fruit notes hit me first. Folowed by a hint of leather and a touch of booziness. Nice roasted grain notes. Iím getting the Rye, most of all. Just a touch spicey. Very light hints of dark chocolate and coffee.
Big, dark coffee notes blast my tastebuds. Very nice smokey presence, also. Big dark fruit sweetness. Nice hint of caramel malts. Roasted grains make a nice showing for themselves. Once again, Iím getting the spiciness of the Rye, coming through, loud and proud. Hints of vanilla and bourbon-like notes.
A very nicely complex brew.
Mouthfeel is full, as it should be with an Imperial Stout. Very nice and creamy. Super smooth going down.
This one is very easy to drink. An enjoyable process, also. Nice one to sip and bask in all of the flavors that are going on in there.
Yet another excellent offering in the Smokestack Series from Boulevard.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Admittedly not the first beer back from Lent, but it was the second. And it was taslty. Iím a little salty writing... 40 days/nights, you know... Never-the-less, strong in aroma and flavor; any way you slice it. Coffee and chocolate and fruit highlights and hop kick rearness all the way through. This was a robust beer with handshake appeal and back porch presence. Delicious and advanced for a Boulevard.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a lovely chocolate brown with an ample amount of dark tan head. Aroma is of chocolate and coffee. Taste is a classic Stout with chocolate/coffee/toffee notes. The hops come through in the aftertaste. Stouts arenít usually my favorite beer, but this one isnít too bad.

Fairly lively sticky light tan head, sticks around for a bit, but eventually leaves thin sheet
dense black body
smells of faint roast cream and vanilla
taste is sweet dark fruit, moments of cherry, bourbon, whiskey, roast, oak, vanilla, not cloying, but sweet, complexity offers new flavors throughout first serving, hint of alcohol is present, very tasty
full bodied, fairly round, sticky lips
somewhat challenging drink, a 22oz is perfect
overall, very tasty belgian inspired imperial stout, rich with barrel aged complexity and depth, powerful, sweet and sticky
2011-2 Bottle No 10058 Brett Infected Consumed March 15, 2013 @ 55į
Pours black with blood red to brownish amber highlights, well-done cookie colored head fading to a nearly solid sheet
Bright, lightly sour orange and yellow fruity brett notes mingle with obvious, but respectful, whiskey barrel nuances while big sweet chocolatey stout layers relax in the background,†faint red and black licorice, soft spirit heat balances the tartness keeping the quaff lean and easy going considering everything involved, creamy charred oak vanilla finish
When the sharpness from the brett and whiskey begin to mellow into the chocolatey stout layers, this really shines with balanced layer upon layer of complexities, citrus, tobacco, faint leather, chocolatey cream
Mmh silky creamy body

Iíve enjoyed most all of the Smokestack series beers, so I was anxious to try the newest release. Pours pitch black with a very thick, slowly dissolving tan head. Itís a nice looking pour. Aroma is roast with bits of coffee and also some small hints of yeast. The first thing I noticed upon sipping was the thick, smooth mouthfeel of this beer. Flavor is predominately roasted malts with strong coffee notes and oak. Also has some dark fruit sweetness mixed in. Nice complexity. Another nice offering in the Smokestack series.

picked up this bottle at beer geek christmas at heritage, second to last at 10 AM. pours thick and heavy and black with massive tan head that bubbles with carbonation (hence the cork) and expanded over the glasses rim. did i mention the head? you could almost set a quarter on that thing. nose is heavy roast and burnt toffee and pungent with alcohol, like a hobo but without the flees. taste is complex, with notes of molasses, alcohol and slight licorice. this is a fantastic imperial stout.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours thin like a porter with a fluffy creamy tan head. Smells like coffee, espresso, chocolate, roasted marshmallows, and bourbon. Perfect temperature for this beer is...well, I donít know what the temperature is but its perfect right now. The taste is nice rich chocolate milk and espresso and just a bit bitter. The bourbony flavor is a little bit like heaven. This beer is stellar.
