Like India Pale Ale, the classic Imperial Stouts were originally brewed with high levels of alcohol and hops to withstand the rigors of a long sea journey, not to India but to Imperial Russia and the Baltic States. Our version is an over-the-top riff on the style, with a huge grain bill featuring several kinds of malted barley, wheat, rye, oats, and spelt. Robust grain and coffee flavors are counterbalanced by date and plum notes from the Scottish yeast. To add extra complexity and depth, this Imperial Stout is made up of a blend of freshly brewed beer and several barrel-aged beers, carefully balanced. Za Vas!

I wish it had a little more of a stouty taste. It’s pretty good though, has a decent whisky flavor.

bottle @ home. Pours almost black with a medium beige head that diminishes quite fast. Roasted, shigly vinous and alcoholic aroma with notes of dark chocolate, raisins, vanilla, whiskey, wood, salt licorice. Medium to big body. Roasted, dry taste with dark bitter chocolate, vanilla, red fruits, licorice, whiskey, wood, alcohol, rasins, plums. Lasting bitter and dry aftertaste.

Pours a deep dark brown color. Small tan head head that lasted throughout. Aromas of bourbon and wood. Flavor was a lot of bourbon, hints of smoke, chocolate. Full bodied and creamy. Tasted more bourbon than beer. WOW, this is a flavorful beer!!

Pours a very deep brown body with a small, light-brown head that disappears quickly. Moderate aroma of dark caramel, chocolate sauce and roasted malt. Strong flavour of dark caramel, chocolate and sugar, with dark dried fruits and a gentle generic fruitiness in the back. Also hints of vanilla. The taste is pretty heavy sweet with just a moderate bitterness in the long finish to back it up. Some might claim that it’s an unbalanced beer, although I think the massive sweetness sort of works, at least for a small sample. The mouthfeel is pleasant, with a syrupy to creamy texture, full body and moderate carbonation. Nice and sweet!

2014 whiskey barrel aged. Black black body with a good sized tan head of small bubbles. Whiskey and chocolate aroma as it warms but also a hint of straight rubbing alcohol. Much more pleasant taste of milk chocolate, oak barrel and hints of whiskey.

Tap at R+B. Thick brown-black body. Very sweet, roasty, almost has leathery bourbon tones. Chewy sweet caramel notes. Massive beige head. This really seems barrel aged. Pretty good.

25 oz bottle to snifter. Pours dark black with thin head that quickly faded to a ring of tight carbonated bubbles around the rim of the glass. Wasn’t expecting a lot of barrel aroma to this one so I was pleasantly surprised to find a pretty good smell of bourbon upon popping the cork. I really like the taste of this one. A good mix of sweetness and hops with some definite barrel flavors to boot. I really like this beer. Best Boulevard I’ve tried yet.

Well...It IS Saturday and after 12 a clock :)

I was going through my beercellar-collection and found a few nice friends. Finally I choose this one for now.

Bought in September 2015 at Systembolaget, Sweden.

The beer pours very dark brown with a huge, four finger high, beige-brown head that leaves a lot of lacing on the glass.

Nose: Caramel malt, brown sugar, fudge, rye, oatmeal, bourbon whiskey, oak barrel, vanilla, coffee, plum, dark fruit, chocolate cake and dark syrup. What a nose! I’m in love even before my first sip!
Taste: Oh! This is such a complex, beatiful f*ing GREAT taste! Vanilla, bourbon, chocolate, whipped cream, oak barrels, a light taste of licorice, honey, brown sugar, maple syrup, caramel malt and roasted malt. I think I could go on forever...
Mouthfeel: Full body. Light carbonation. Soft and silky smooth! Creamy and fluffy. So good!

This is a dessert! One of the best you can have! It is a big 750 ml bottle but you do NOT want to share...

Boulevard Smokestack Series Imperial Stout is one of my absolute favorites up until now. Beautiful, complex, sweet nose and likewise taste: smooth, complex, soft, creamy and with the bourbon oak barrels in the background... Well this is just what I want! I’m a sucker for this!
