COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like India Pale Ale, Imperial Stouts were originally brewed with high percentages of malt and hops to help them withstand the rigors of a long sea journey, not to India but to Imperial Russia and the Baltic States. Our version is an over-the-top riff on the style, with a huge grain bill featuring several kinds of malted barley, wheat, rye, and oats. A portion of the batch has been aged in whiskey barrels, then blended with fresh ale before bottling. Za Vas!

Bottle shared with koleminer20. 2013 vintage. Aroma is sweet, vanilla, licorice, chocolate, malty, a little fruit. Appearance is black, brown head. Taste is bitter, dark chocolate, malt, metallic. Mouthfeel is ok, decent carbonation, oily but not so heavy. Overall...itís not as impressive as expected.

750 mL corked and caged bottle. 2013 vintage. Shared with ebone1988. The pour is a good medium black color with a large khaki colored head and lots of soapy lace clinging to the glass. The aroma is beautiful. There is a nice vanilla character that meets the nose. There is a strong oak to accompany a light licorice and some great roast. Dark fruit starts to come through on the back end. The flavor is a lot of roasted malt, some medium dark chocolate and then it turns a bit metallic on the finish. The mouth feel is good and creamy, but not as thick as I was expecting. The aftertaste is lingeringly roasty and chocolatey. Could be so much better. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2013 bottle, drank March of 2015. Given that 40% was aged in bourbon barrels for a year and the rest is a year old at least it was quite bitter. Mostly whiskey and dark chocolate on the nose. The taste is mostly bourbon but itís quite abrasive. Overall not the best bourbon barrel stout Iíve had but not terrible. Maybe letting it age and sweeten up a bit would improve it

Bottle: 2013 - very dense deep brown to black. Light head and lace. Very inky dense roasted nose. Coffee, smokey, dark chocolate but with a high tone edge. Hint of florals and maybe some VA. Dry to off dry palate with maybe a slightly fresh or sour edge and low bitterness. The Flavors a re great. Very rich, saturated, creamy palate. Long and balanced. Dark chocolate, dried fruit, ink, wonderful palate. Very complexed beer. Saturated and almost funky.

75cl Bottle, tfs Julien! Black colour, huge beige head. Aroma of milk chocolate, black liquorice, some roast, hint of coffee. Flavour is sweet, milk chocolate, liquorice, lot of it, light fruity, some oak/vanilla, light-bitter finish. Medium bodied. Expected a lot more complexity.

Bottle shared by Julien, small sample. Dark color, short head. Aroma of some roasted malts, bit grainy, chocolate, coffee, slight spicy note. Bit sweet in taste, slight malty bitterness. Bit thin in flavor actually. Very easy to drink though, despite the 11.8%. Decent stuff.

Bottle shared. Black pour with thin foamy light brown head. Aroma is roasty, some caramel, light chocolate, boozy aromas, light cocoa. Taste is bitter, roasty, subtle coffee notes, tons of black licorice and a pretty boozy finish. Palate is thinner than I expected, was expecting something much chewier, a bit thin and boozy. Still pretty easy drinking.

Dtaft at Eulogy. Thick black pour. Foamy tan ring. Black plums. Oats. Barley. Rye. Raisins. Black currants. Dried blueberry waffles. Nice dark fruits but also has a fresher deep purple fruit flavor. Vanilla beans. Some mild dark chocolate coffee notes in there as well. Creamy palate. Bettered my expectations.
