COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like India Pale Ale, Imperial Stouts were originally brewed with high percentages of malt and hops to help them withstand the rigors of a long sea journey, not to India but to Imperial Russia and the Baltic States. Our version is an over-the-top riff on the style, with a huge grain bill featuring several kinds of malted barley, wheat, rye, and oats. A portion of the batch has been aged in whiskey barrels, then blended with fresh ale before bottling. Za Vas!

750ml corked bottle from Puerto Rico Wine and Liquor, cellar aged a month served at cellar temperature to Eric, with a 2013 label and a bottle date that impossible to decipher. Pours a very dark brown with a tan label. Almost no lacing. Big aroma of molasses, caramel, rum raisin, some chocolate. Later down in the glass some whiskey/vanilla shows through - and then takes precedence. Taste is of sweet caramelly malts, some licorice, molasses. Then the vanilla kicks in, with alcohol. Still some roast and molasses fight through. Medium to full bodied. The alcohol becomes stronger. Finishes quite sweet, with length. A solid, tasty brew - seemed to be more barrel aging than described, although the bottle age may have contributed. 14.4

Shared bottle at Åserød. Pours pitch black with a huge frothy dark tanned head. Strong whiskey aroma along with roasted malts, tar, liquorice. Taste is light sweet roasted, liquorice, thick oily mouthfeel, high carbonated, some nice elements, some not so good.

750 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 11/1/2013. Pours dense pitch black color with a 2 finger fairly dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big raisin, plum, date, fig, licorice, molasses, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, toffee, bourbon, oak, vanilla, clove, pepper, light char, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/roasted malt, and light-moderate bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, date, fig, licorice, molasses, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, toffee, bourbon, oak, vanilla, clove, pepper, light char, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Fair amount of earthy yeast spice and roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark fruit, licorice, molasses, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, toffee, bourbon, oak, vanilla, pepper, and yeast/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/roasted malt, and light-moderate bourbon barrel flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance with the yeast notes and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy, and lightly slick mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible Belgian imperial stout style. All around awesome complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/roasted malt, and light-moderate bourbon barrel flavors; and extremely smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Alcohol and raisins in the aroma. The taste is of dark fruits, oak, and soy. Heavy bitterness that fills the mouth a long time. A little too heavy to drink for my taste. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Pours black with thick, tall tan head. Aroma is quite held back but has coffee, roasted malt, basement, light dried fruit, nuts, quite earthy. Taste is quite sweet, initially vanilla then dried dark fruit, figs and raisins and cherries, finish is lightly boozy, sweet muscovado and chocolate with a hint of tartiness. Body is rich and creamy, with soft carbonation.
