COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like India Pale Ale, Imperial Stouts were originally brewed with high percentages of malt and hops to help them withstand the rigors of a long sea journey, not to India but to Imperial Russia and the Baltic States. Our version is an over-the-top riff on the style, with a huge grain bill featuring several kinds of malted barley, wheat, rye, and oats. A portion of the batch has been aged in whiskey barrels, then blended with fresh ale before bottling. Za Vas!

On tap at Global Brew. Pours an opaque dark brown, almost black with a nice tan head. Coffee and bourbon aroma. Rich roasted malt flavor, along with coffee, licorice, dark chocolate and bourbon again. Real busy, but great!

Jet black pour with a tan head. Big roasty aromas with notes of coffee and cocoa. Wonderful notes of whiskey and oak as well. Flavor is a perfect balance between roasted malts and whiskey/oak notes. This brew is so well balanced. Rich and robust finish. Awesome beer.

Very nice. 2011 Edition. Aroma of dark sweet malts, wood and bourbon. Very dark and thick in appearance. Virtually no head, which lead to concern it had gone flat. Palate was heavy, smooth, oily and had the right amount of carbonation. Dark roasted sugar flavors with a strong roasted character and some chocolate. Alcohol and bourbon were pronounced. Well done.

love the smokestack series and this one rivals the quad for the best. Great dark pour with amazing head retention and lacing. Very flavorful and robust.

Type: 750ml (25.9 oz.) bottle Glass: Sea Smoke oversized wine glass From: Bine & Vine Bottle Shop in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif. Price: $14.99 (received as a Father’s Day gift) Purchased: June 14, 2014 Consumed: July 2, 2014 Misc.: Champagne cork; Batch No. 1613310-2 (semi-guessing on the ‘6’); Best by Nov. 2015; 2013 edition Poured a pitch black color with three fingers of frothy tan head. Average amount of sporadic foamy lacing along the sides of the glass. Fantastic retention, settling nicely in the beginning and only losing a little bit on the top the rest of the way. Smelled rich chocolate, roasted dark chocolate, toffee, caramel, dates, fig, light tobacco?, wet cocoa powder, boozy liquor, rye, whiskey and faint smoky fire. Really grew on me after a few whiffs. Tasted just as good as the smell. Got toffee, caramel, dark chocolate booziness, thick cocoa powder, light coffee beans, smooth whiskey, plum, dates, figs, hot fudge and roasted nuts. Full body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. Just a fantastic beer. Loved every moment of it.

Got this thanks to spence. Poured a jet black with a thick beige sandy looking head with decent retention and lacing. Smelled like a bit smokey for a regular impy stout but it is a smokestack series. As soon as I took a drink it coated everything. Thick molasses, bakers chocolate, with a mellow smokiness and bitterness that reminds me more of a Baltic porter. Either way pretty decent but not great.
