COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lately it occurs to us that if, back in 1989, you planned on starting a brewery in the back of your carpentry shop, youd have been wise to seek out someone like Harold "Trip" Hogue. A collector of ancient Volvos, Trip was well-qualified for the make-do engineering required to coax recalcitrant equipment out of retirement and onto making the first Boulevard beers.

The Tripel style originated in the Trappist brewery of Westmalle Abbey in pre-war Antwerp province. Its numeric moniker results from the old Belgian practice of naming beers based on the amount of malt used in the brew. A "Simple" was the lightest-bodied brew. Doubling the malt bill resulted in a "Dubbel", while a "Tripel" contained three times the amount of malt (and, as a result, three times the amount of alcohol.) True to style, our Long Strange Tripel is a golden ale with estery aromas, a dense, creamy head and a sweet finish.

A - Hazy orange with a 2 fingers of fluffy white head. S - Peach, apricots, oranges, pears, spice. T - Follows the nose, fruity yeast, grainy malt, oranges, apricots, peaches, and pears. Spice really opens up at the end along with grassy hops. M - Creamy smooth feel, full bodied, bright moderate carbonation. Very refreshing, great mouthfeel, highly enjoyable beer. Ive been waiting a long time to try this. Popped the cork, poured a liquid of ripe-apricot color into my snifter, and watched as it loaded itself immediately with a massive, pillowy, dense head. Light bananas and clove on the nose, and then a cotton-soft, sweet and sour on my tongue. A delicate explosion of yeast in an array of fruit and spice from inside the creamy liquid coats my entire mouth; the yeast coming sliding under my tongue and titillating my salivary glands. It gives me a wonderful reason to tip the glass again. This is very nice; subtle, but strong; an excellent example of an Abbey Tripel and one I am absolutely sure to go back to in the very near future. I am very glad to have been able to find this Boulevard, and so glad that it was worth every minute of the wait.

750ml bottle - A very, very solid beer and nicely priced at $9.00 for a big-boy. A very spicy smelling tripel, with copious amounts fruit and alcohol found within. The yeast makes an appearance as does toasted sugar. Bubblegum jumps out on my palate right off the bat. Table sugar, orange juice, some light hoppage, alcohol and spices. Very nicely balanced. Evervesence is medium-high, so it does have a bit of prickliness to it. Alcohol adds to it. Very nice.

335 ml bottle. Hazed dark gold pour, large head. Smell is spocier, some herbs and honey. Flavor is a spicy triple, also a bit boozy. Not the best trip but a good us interpretation.

Bottle. Clear dark golden body with a large white head. Nose is banana, Belgian ale yeast, citric peel, clove, hints of sugar, floral honey tones and grains. Taste is red berries, pears, banana, white sugar, honey and hints of clove and floral honey tones. Medium body, medium to high carbonation. Very estery, but pretty nice.

Wonderful, yeasty Belgian aroma -- slightly sweet. 12 oz bowling pin bottle. Clear light gold. Hippie on the label. Frothy mouthfeel. Nice flavor all round. Yeasty, sweetish, properly bitter. Vanilla notes in aroma and flavor. Balanced. Medium long bitter aftertaste and finish. ABC Liquors, Betton.

Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Betton - 12 oz bottle. Slightly hazy, medium golden pour, quickly fading light bubbly white head. Aroma has a hint of bubble gum and white grape juice, a hint of cake mix. Flavor is pleasant with some heavy doses of yeast, some cake mix sweetness, a touch of white grape juice.
