COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Nommo are ancestral spirits worshipped by the Dogon tribe of the West African nation of Mali. The name is derived from a Dogon word meaning ‘to make one drink.’ No, really. Nommo, usually described as amphibious, hermaphroditic, fish-like creatures, were created by the sky god Amma, who caused them to multiply by splitting them into doubled sets of twins. Seeing a trend here? Maybe it’s farfetched, but we think the story of the Nommo makes this whole enterprise a little more fun and interesting.

Our Nommo has a brilliant deep amber color and a sweet caramel malt profile. This beer showcases the coriander, cinnamon, and star anise used in the kettle, complementing them with clove and banana notes contributed by the Belgian yeast. The rich complexity of Nommo’s flavor makes it a worthy partner to a variety of meats and game, as well as aged or aromatic cheeses.

Bottle @ home. I was very excited to pick this up and then it sat around my apartment for a few months without reason. Here goes... Hazy, reddish brown appearance with a big, fluffy, light brown head. Slight vegetal, caramel, chocolate, coriander, pepper aroma. Somewhat spicy, cinnamon, caramel, candy sugar, chocolate, toffee sweet flavor again with this weird celery, vegetal off taste. Good carbonation. I can’t get past the weird celery flavor- maybe it’s the star anise?

750mL c&c thanks to beerandblues2. The pour is a hazy, deep brune with a billowing yellow head. Poofy. Great retention and awesome lace. Nose is celery, black pepper, tomato soup. Taste is black pepper and tomato soup. Moves to medicinal cloves and cinnamon. Gets rid of vegetal qualities for the most part as it warms. Still a lot of cracked black pepper. Palate is richer and spicy.

draft. clear chestnut brown with red edges and a thick, patchy sand colored head. mostly quiet / neutral nose expressing cracker and toast malt with bready and fruity esters. medium body, mild sweetness, low bitterness, turning a bit rounded and chewy (increase in sweetness too) late. a bit of a distant presentation, it comes across a little muted, and without anything really happening, and the body being good at best.

v\Sample at the Central OH BA Tasting at From The Vine on 06/02/2012: This beer has a reddish-brown appearance and a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of ripe fruits, malt and yeast. Medium body with flavors of caramel malt, yeast, candied fruit and spices. The finish is fruity and malty with a spicy yeast aftertaste. Above average all around.

Poured clear, honeyed, medium orange with a creamy cap of soft yellowy-beige head. The aroma picked up toasted green raisins, toffee, and figs surrounded by cinnamon, anise, and fresh vanilla bean.. lovely floral and citrusy hops accented.. warm and inviting. The flavor opened with some tanginess from a combo of hops, anise, and black pepper.. fig, raisin, and molasses sweetness backed it up.. complementary bitterness around.. more spices on the finish in the form of cinnamon, nutmeg, and anise. Medium-bodied with creamy carbonation on the palate.. spices and hops were quite complementary.. warm finish. Excellent, excellent beer!

Slightly hoppier than the norm. Slightly thin. It just doesn’t come together for me.
