How can a style as elegant and refined as pilsner be "amped up" to imperial status? The answer, as Spinal Tap guitarist Nigel Tufnel might say, is simple: you go to eleven. With its classic recipe and impeccable craftsmanship, Reverb Imperial Pilsner echoes our Collaboration No. 1 Imperial Pilsner, produced in 2009 with esteemed Belgian brewmaster Jean-Marie Rock. Like its predecessor, this summer seasonal is a study in delicately balanced contrasts. Up front, Pilsner malt makes a clear yet restrained statement, answered by the steady, harmonious hum of Saaz hops, traces of which linger in the dry, crisp finish. Rock on.

Hazy pale gold beer. Good bubbly white head. Lagerish malt nose. Soft semi dry palate with a carbonated sting in the tail. Creamy malt with a little dry spice. Just a touch of orange hop peeping through. A nice enough Pils but was hoping the ’Imperial’ label might have facilitated some more hops!

750 ml bottle at DC local tasting, courtesy of nimbleprop, thanks! Clear yellow, edge head. Aroma of sesame and malt. Taste has a sour start that transitions to malty sweetness and ends in a bitter flourish. Complex, good body and character.

Bottle, 75cl, at Nćrbř Řlfestival 2013. It pours a lightly unclear yellowish golden body under a small, off-white head. The aroma is fruity and lighlty grainy, with hay and a touch of alcohol. Fruity and grainy flavor too, with hay, alcohol and some bitterness. Warming, full-bodied and with a nice carbonation. Bitter finish. Well, it’s too alcoholic, but still sort of refreshing. 131019

Medium in body with average carbonation and light warmth. Finishes with light drying, earthy and herbal character, and further notes of yeast and bread. Very nice.
