4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jcos (1173) - Maryland, USA - MAY 13, 2013
Location/Date:Bottle split with Dave on 5/11/2013.
Appearance: Pours a dark caramel cloud.
Aroma: Aroma of rye, faint caramel.
Taste: Light bitterness, lots of rye, some caramel, whiskey on the finish.
Palate:Medium body, covers alcohol well.
Summary: Really interesting beer that at first I was scared to try as I’m not a huge whiskey fan. Really well balanced, alcohol isn’t too harsh for 12%, nice stuff.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 JulienHuxley (1705) - Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 12, 2013
Bottle thanks to Jao. Clear (very light haze) copper-red pour, creamy white head with spotty lacing. Really whiskey forward, vanilla, light pickle bourbon notes, light peppery rye notes. Flavor is a tad boozy, really peppery, lots of rye (both the grain and the whiskey), something a tad vegetal in the finish. Full bodied with light-med carbonation. Interesting experimental beer, could have used a bit more residual sugar to mellow it out.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 radarsock (476) - Massachusetts, USA - MAY 10, 2013
Consumed with Jblauvs at his Amesbury flat. Basically, it was sourdough- and raisin-laden strong ale accompanying ahsy and bittersweet undertastes. Not my thing, really. Murky, hazy brown; vivacious vanilla cream head two to three fingers. This was being saved for someone else, but if they hadn’t blown me off I would’ve given it to them. Not worth the price, either.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dogbrick (6004) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 2, 2013
This brew pours a brownish-amber color with a medium foamy off-white head that recedes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of grain, malt and fruit. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky vanilla, grainy malt and subtle booze and rye. The finish is malty up front with spice and oak aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

A very strong, forward, tasting Ale. I was intrigued by this beer because I really enjoy Templeton Rye, and thought it would be a great vessel to age a beer in. I (they) was right!

UPDATED: APR 14, 2013 Pours reddish amber with a white foam head that sticks to the glass. The aroma is wine barrel, sangria, coconut, and some tart fruit. The taste is rich caramel, fruit, oak, booze, coconut, and vanilla. I’m really digging this.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 BlowOffTube (52) - Michigan, USA - APR 13, 2013
Really enjoyed this one. Pours a clear copper color with light spicy bourbon on the nose. Not much head on this one. Taste is spicy with a very clean bourbon taste and decent medium body. The rye comes through on this one along with a little burnt sugar and vanilla in the background. A little more bourbon taste would have been nice but overall I thought this was a solid brew.
