COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Why Rye? A fair question, given this assertively flavored grain is more often associated with whiskey than with beer. Even in that arena, it has largely been eclipsed by corn and barley, the sources of bourbon and scotch, respectively. But when we procured some seasoned rye whiskey barrels from our friends at Templeton Rye, we asked ourselves, "Why not?" Why not brew a rich, tawny rye ale, then mellow it in the warmth of charred oak rye whiskey casks? Thus, Rye-on-Rye: a marriage of very similar, yet very different embodiments of this unique, distinctive grain. Two kinds of malted rye provide a spicy sweetness, giving way to notes of caramelized wood and the citrusy tang of Perle, Magnum and Saphir hops before easing into a dry, lingering finish. Rye-on-Rye’s body and character make it the equal to any sort of hearty stew or aged cheese. At the risk of seeming redundant, might we suggest pairing it with a classic pastrami-on rye? A rye beer with a hint of rye whiskey aroma, alongside a rye bread sandwich. Why not?

FROTHINGSLOSH (6457) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 9, 2013
From the March 2013 3R6P tasting - and the best beer of the night IMHO +++ Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured an orange-brown color with a medium sized foamy orange-tan head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was malty and semi-sweet with notes of orange and toffee. The flavor was dryish with moderate notes of honey, bourbon, toffee and coconut. Medium length honey, toffee and coconut finish. Medium body. Well done.

TURDFERGUSON (4039) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - MAR 6, 2013
Sample from the bottle thanks to Briton at CBC. Reddish metal stained amber with a thin sudsy white head. Nose is woody, light cedar, lots of rye, light whiskey, toasted grains. Flavor is similar, wood and rye, with notes of sweet pipe tobacco, rustic leather, and light whiskey-like heat. Interesting but doesn’t stand out enough to make me wanna buy a bottle of my own.*

GTAEgeek (1843) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - MAR 4, 2013
Sample from Carlson at the Brick Store Pub. Brown color, with a medium, beige head. The aroma is immense vanilla, toffee, oak, molasses, and caramel. The flavor is overwhelmingly sweet. The palate is very heavy, syrupy, and sticky. Overall, this is a wonderfully complex and very flavorful beer.

Pour’s golden orange with two fingers of off white head and great lacing. Sweet bourbon whiskey aromas. Taste boozy and sweet vanilla oak lingering aftertaste. Overall this is a very good barrel aged beer with med body and very nice carbonation and mouthfeel.

From a corked and caged 750. 2012 release. Poured into a snifter. Aroma is booze and heat. Thinner head and no lacing. Mouthfeel is thin for the abv. Taste is overwhelming rye whiskey. A real booze bomb with no balance at all. Not my kinda beer. Very disappointing ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy reddish - brown beer. Big creamy head. Big palate Milky sweet nose with Woody notes Sourish cream with a little wood and vanilla. Mild whisky. Slight bitterness in the finish. A nice beer but it’s more Rye sour than Rye spice.

Amber colour, off-white head. Aroma of bread, whisky, alcohol, quite sweet, notes of wood and vanilla. Quite alcoholic flavour, whiskey, sweet malts and bread. Finish rye bread.
Quite nice, though not as -by lack of a better word- big as I expected.

Countbeer (5953) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - FEB 22, 2013
Bottle @ Kiss The Kitchen Floor or better known as ZZT VI (2013): kindly shared by dEnk: Medium sized creamy beige head that turns pretty quick into a lacing on top of a hazy orange amber colored beer. Aromas of peach, alcohol, malts, rye, spices and a hint of smoke. Flavours of alcohol, warmth, spices, peach, malts, a hint of malts and something light rye ish... Aftertaste is bready with warmth and spices. Low carbo, soft but spicy mouthfeel, medium body and a light oily texture. Not bad, but expected a bit more of this beer.
