Bottle # 8116. A special thanks to Matthew(Overml01) and Dede on their wedding day. Cheers to the both of you. Mohogany pour with a beige head. Aroma is rye, bourbon, vanilla. Taste is rye, bourbon, oak, vanilla, finishes with a dry taste. Alcohol is more noticeable as it warms up. Foam laces nicely on the side of the glass.

750m corked and baled. Thanks Tyler! Pours a murky dark amber with golden brown edges. Huge pillowy grainy-wheat-bread-looking head that really, really sticks around. Decent sheets of tan lace coming down the sides of the glass. This beer looks like it could have been an extra in the Lord of the Rings--it’s got that screaming hand-made salt-of-the-earth fecundity to everything about the color and heft and head of it. This beer looks like prosperous civilization in a glass. If you can harvest enough to make this beer and still have enough left over for a quarter of a billion pastrami sandwiches that year, then, as a society, your agricultural efforts are proceeding apace. Have yourself a beer. And while you’re at it thank your lucky stars you live in a melting pot. Creamy medium body with sharp carb. Definitely some smoky, boozy, and woody notes. Big bold rye bread tartness on the mid palate, toasty, spicy, pushy but pleasant. Lots of power here, but it’s that approachable carraway deli awesomeness that you want from a powerfully flavored bread, except translated into liquid goodness. Finish lingers.

750ml bottle, courtesy degarth. Batch 2010-01 bottled on 01/13/2010. Bottle #9306 of 12148. The pour yields a hazy, darkish, brazen-gold colored body with a moderate, frothy head of beige foam. Spotted lacing dots the glass. The aroma is based in big, spicy rye malts and toasted grain, with substantial influence from caraway and licorice. Charred oak is quite apparent, while the rye barrel also forwards a significant amount of booziness. Flavors show a bit more caramel character, introducing a slight sweetness to the zesty, clean rye and toasted cereal grain. The oak brings a smoky char component, along with hints of vanilla and woody spice. The palate is medium-plus in stature and initially smooth, finishing out a little rougher with the pronounced boozy heat. Overall, it’s a good, interesting brew, but I think the rye barrel aging is better suited with a darker base beer profile, and the gravity should probably be turned down a notch or two.

Rye on rye (750ml bottle from Shawn)... Pours a medium caramel murky cinnamon brown with a huge fluffy light beige head... Flavors are very assertive vanilla and toffee with rye whiskey bourbon aspects which at first seem calm, body seems smooth light and creamy, but after awhile the booziness just hits u hard in the mouth. Not for the faint hearted. 8/4/7/3/14

750ml bottle shared by Arbitrator on BA. Pours a mostly clear medium brown color with a three-finger off-white head and decent lacing. Aroma is rye whiskey, oak, honey, rye, and sweet malt. Pretty nice. Flavor is great even though it’s very sweet. Caramel malt, earthiness, oak, spice, and rye whiskey. Maybe it’s just that I love rye barrel aged stuff, but this is pretty tasty. Somewhat sweet on the palate with medium-full body. Just a tad syrupy. Average-plus drinkability. A very solid beer overall, but not one of the better ones that have come out of a rye whiskey barrel.

750 ml bottle from ditmier. Bottle 4557/12148. Nose of whiskey, bready rye, Light oaky vanilla. Lightly hazy amber with a big pale beige head. Flavor of bready yeast, whiskey, and light vanilla.

thanks kan, 750ml. pours pours hazed amber foamy off white head nose has a big spicy rye and vanilla and hotdogs and figs. Fl big rye notes smokey vanilla and figs, huge rye and alc finish that’s difficult to drink

Bottle 8872 of 12148. Pours a dark ruby red brown with a huge off-white khaki head. Biggest head for a beer of this abv that I have ever seen. Lots of lively rising carbonation bubbles. Nice lace. The aroma is super heavy on the rye. Very sweet bourbon aroma. Creamy vanilla is very prominent. There is also an almost spicy banana note. The flavor is very unique, and intense. Again, very bourbony, oaky, vanilla, and surprisingly not much alcohol. The more I get into it, the smoother it gets, but it is still a very heavy and flavorful beer. I am gonna have a tough time getting through this whole bottle by myself. Meant to share it with a friend, but the prolongation of said sharing inspired me to just go for it. It is medium to full body with lively arbonation--fine bubbles. Overall: a very bold and unique beer. One for all the bourbon fans to try, though I strongly advise you split a bottle between 3 people or so. The more I drink, the more I think this beer would get really interesting with some brett in it! (nudge nudge Boulevard)

750ml bottle from the Wine and Cheese Place. Lightly hazed copper with a big beige head. Big nose of rye malts and whiskey notes, a little cloying.

Brown with creamy tan head and lace. Rye malt aroma with a hint of something like vanilla. Light malt sweetness, a whiskiness and abv dominate. Medium bodied with good carbonation. very nice beer.
