UPDATED: APR 14, 2013 Pours reddish amber with a white foam head that sticks to the glass. The aroma is wine barrel, sangria, coconut, and some tart fruit. The taste is rich caramel, fruit, oak, booze, coconut, and vanilla. Iím really digging this.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Burnt orange/ chestnut color with some fairly quick ashen tan head. Sweet and warm aromas - whiskey, oak, alcohol, intense honey and toffee. Sweet and buttery flavor with warm and oaky bite. Batch from 2013-2. Itís fairly syrupy but with nice carb. Iím surge the age has done this well, The 12% is barely detectable. I say check the label and consume accordingly.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a clear dark orange body under a one finger fizzy beige head. The nose is balanced between the spicy rye and the slight booziness from the barrel aging. Heavy caramel malt base, some light alcohol as well. The flavor is very sweet, like ridiculously sweet, with tons if caramel and brown sugar notes. The rye is actually pretty light and is overpowered by the sweetness. Fairly heavy alcohol flavor on the finish, which is where the spicy rye does emerge a bit. Medium to full bodied, fairly sticky and chewy with moderate soft carbonation. Rather warming on the way down. Interesting beer, but a little too overly sweet for my tastes.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Very tasty. Strong whiskey and wood aroma. Dark copper color that looked grainy with an off-white head. Above average weighty palate that was smooth with decent carbonation. Flavors were whiskey, rye and grains with an overlay of oak. Blended very well. Alcohol on this one will sneak up on you.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A: Reddish/Mild Orangish Hue, Passes Some Light, Off White Head Ring, Some Lacing
S: Rye Bourbon Barrel Sweetness, Honey, Rye
T: Rye Bourbon, Honey, Rye, Mild Sweet Bread
M: Decent Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Sweet, Mildly Boozy
Overall, you really get the rye barrel taste and the rye grains seperately but they mesh well together too. Solid.

2013 750ml bottle thanks to fletche00. Thanks! Poured into a brandy snifter. Pours a copper to amber color with a white head of foam. The aroma has musty, mossy, wet basement type components. Really not into that. The taste was even more of that. Musty and mildewy. Unfortunately, I ended up dumping the majority of this down the drain. This one just did not appeal to me.

Had this up against several barrel aged beers and this was definitely the one I did not like. Not sure what was going on here. Had a weird mouthwash taste. Sort of sweet and sour. Possible infected?

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
25.2 Bomber. The beer pours to a cloudy amber color with a medium white head. The aroma has a strong bread, earthy, cereal notes to it. The rye gives it a slight sweetness note to it but the whiskey barrel flavor is a strong presence to it. Overall a very good beer

Very nice flavors of rye whiskey, maple syrup, caramel, vanilla, and caramelized sugar. I canít believe how much the rye whiskey flavors really shine through. Tastes outstanding.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: DEC 9, 2013 Bottle: 2012... thanks, Mike! Bloody copper color with some cloudiness & some clarity; barely any head forms, kind of surprising... Just a thin, beige collar and nothing more. Aroma is full of dry rye, wet oak, light whiskey, malty caramel sweetness, some light apple & plum skin tartness, and a bit of back-end, cardboard-like oxidation. Taste is also very rye-heavy, no surprise there. Whiskey, grains, rye bread, smooth caramel & toffee malt, a touch of sticky sweetness and some vanilla. Light plum, almost tart, with finishing notes of oak. Again, there is some wet cardboard oxidation happening, which Iím not particularly a fan of. Rye bread aftertaste. Unfortunately just a decent beer for me... Perhaps early oxidation was the problem? I would like to try another bottle.
