4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 rayg1 (525) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - MAY 22, 2008Found this in a bottle shop in Minneapolis. I wasn’t really expecting too much from this bottle when I found out that this was made in Kansas City. However, I was presently surprised at how well done this example of saison really was. Pours a pale hazy yellow with a huge thick white head that lasts for the whole duration of drinking. Very flowery nose, sweet hay, a bit of musty and horse-like smell, followed by a spicy sweetness of coriander, apricots, and lemons. Taste is very much the same with the sweet hay and coriander coming out strongly. Citrus notes take over where the coriander leaves off, a doughy flavor of malts shines through afterward. The finish is very dry and slightly tart. Almost perfect. This is one heck of a refreshing brew, be careful because you will consume this faster than normal. Great beer! What a surprise!

Bottle. Poured a hazy pale with a thin white head that settled to a ring. Aromas of pears, yeast and light citrus hints. The flavor found yeast, earthiness, and light citrus. Light to medium body and dry.

2010 bottle. Almost like a gateway Saison. Good but more like a Saison light. Light on funk in all respects. Nice light mouthfeel with fairly dry finish.

Obviously, this has been aged a while. From the bottle after being uncorked there was a sour tone, which had me worried. After being in the tulip for a while it opened up to more tart fruit aromas, even pear. Nice brown amber color with a head that surprised me. Good clean and crisp palate with carbonation that didn’t seem to have diminished much. Not much sour but more tartness with yeast flavors. This was well blended and held up. Look forward to the Brett version.

Big thanks to yourefragile for sharing this one. Served in a Boulevard Smokestack cervoise. Pours a clear medium golden cot with a nice white head. Plenty of sticky lacing and a nice cap.
Nose has some light grains and faint pepper. A bit oxidized, but still nice. Just a touch of very light fruit in the background. Flavor adds in some semi-sweet grains and light straw. Moderate bitterness and a very crisp body. Light spice through the finish.
Probably a bit muted compared to its prime, but still quite enjoyable and easy drinking.

Sampled at an ESBLS tasting. Pulled out of the cellar. It poured a hazy yellow color with a white head. The aroma was of lemon, earthy notes, a little yeast and some interesting peppery spice notes. The taste was a little dry with lemons, pepper, wood tones, some earth and a nice carbonation. Very good Saison.

Pour at Scott’s saison tasting, 2008 bottle. Hazy orange with white head, aroma has notes of lemon, yeast, bready malts, some fruit and grass, fruit including some pear and peach notes. Taste is a mix of fruit, lemon, yeast, some grass and biscuit, hints of zesty and slightly funky finish, very dry on the palate.

This was one of my favorite beers before i even realized a difference in micro brew and macro brew. i gravitated towards this one out of the original from day one. was very delicious and drinkable. if it was a brought back as 6 pacl i would buy a kegerator. i want to be next to this beer.

750mL bottle, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, hay and wet outdoors. Flavour of Belgian yeast, dry apples / pears, hay, crackery malt, and slight sweetness. Not too full-bodied, but quite refreshing. Way inferior to Saison Brett.
