"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen’s The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Copper brown body and smooth head. Classic Belgian appeal without an overload of spice as often found in American Belgian ales. Rye, figs, cough drop, cereal, grassy hop, but quite a clean yeast surprisingly. Taste is more layered, with cookie spices, fairly high bitterness, not quite as much sweetness or residual cane sugar like qualities as the best dark Belgian strong ales. Tasty though, I liked finishing up the well groomed bottle. Good one. (Bottle from Whip It Austin)

750mL shared on NYE, a weird muddy quad that doesnt have a big amount of dark fruit, more earth flavors to me. sweetness is muddling away but moderately present. not a bad quad but not insanely tasty.

Bottle - fair sized foamy head, hazy medium amber color, sweet malty aroma and flavor, good Belgian yeast kick, some dark fruit notes, pretty good overall although seems a little light for a quad? ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Alright beer. Seemed to be typical of an american try at a Belgian quad. Not a huge fan . Maybe if it were in a barrel.

Pours brown with a huge head. Aroma of malt. Taste of malt, caramel and spice. Pretty dry. Nice, but not that exciting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not my favorite style generally, but this beer blew me away. Gorgeous color with a thick head from a bottle. Slightly tart fruity nose, the head tempers the thick flavors a bit. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle pour. Brown with tints of orange. Yellow tan head. Aroma of fuits and bananas. Flavor the same, with a nice sweetness. Full mouthfeel with good carbonation. Similar to those I’ve had from the Trappists, this is a very nice brew and a pleasure to drink.

Bottle: Pours cloudy, medium brown with a large, creamy, yellow-tan head. Fruit, caramel aroma. Taste is sweet, fruit cake, baked bread, vanilla. Growing alcohol notes, but pretty well masked.

Poured a surprising slightly reddish brown with three full fingers of bubbly head, which retreated fairly quickly to leave no real lacing. Nose is chocolate and caramel. Taste was surprisingly hoppy, with a slightly burnt malt character. Extremely carbonated, perhaps excessively so. Charcoal flavor lingers and doesn't allow much else to shine through.

I am a huge quad fan and this might be my least favorite quad yet. Very uninspiring. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
