4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle into chalice, best before 3/2015. Pours lightly cloudy reddish orange color with a 1 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, raisin, fig, plum, pear, apple, grape, toast, brown sugar, clove, herbal, pepper, candi sugar, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and malt sweetness; with good strength. Taste of caramel, raisin, fig, plum, pear, apple, toast, brown sugar, candi sugar, brown bread, clove, pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of dark fruits, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, clove, pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and malt flavors; with a good malt/spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a fairly slick and moderately crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent quadrupel style! All around great balance and complexity of flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Clear nice deep amber, copper, bronze and ruby-tinted body with a two centimetre, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of pit fruits, alcohol, yeast, raisins, figs, earth and a bunch of peat - very nice and complex. Medium to Full-bodied; Deep rich fruit and pit fruit flavours start out strong and fade to a nice presence with the malt, vanilla, oak, bourbon and rich peat flavours making up the majority of the flavours. Aftertaste shows a good balance of rich malt and alcohol with some smooth sweetness and complex flavours - pungent, yet refined. Overall, a nice quad with a good flavour profile, some lighter tastes, but a still distinct taste that shows well for the style and in general. I sampled this slender twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia on 24-October-2012 for US$2.99 sampled at home in Washington on 08-October-2013.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Opened a bottle on 10/2/13 that I had been cellaring since 2009. I was really unsure how this would age out, but was greatly impressed! Poured a nice clear, amber with an off-white head. Highly carbonated with an aroma profile of strong belgian candied sugar, caramel, flowery, and slightly earthy from the yeast. Taste was still sweet, but it had re-balanced well throughout the years. Had a full, chewy texture but the strong carbonation helped keep it in check. Earthy finish from the yeast was nicely balanced by the burnt sugar flavors. Overall, I really enjoy the Sixth Glass Quad fresh, but I recommend ignoring the "Best By" date and putting some age on it. This was one experiment that everyone agreed turned out quite well.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice bright quad. Cool label too. A pretty standard brown with lots of sediment and white ring that lingers. Aroma of candy and licorice and dark fruits with floral tones as well. Beer is medium bodied and super sweet. Belgian yeast, lots of malt, brown sugar, butter scotch, raisins, and a fair bit of alcohol. Still pretty smooth drinking. Demands sipping. Good stuff.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
375ml bottle. Pours a hazy reddish brown color with a light tan head that falls to a thin layer of bubbles. Big bold dark fruit aromas of raisins and figs, along with touches of cinnamon and nutmeg that really come thru along with some alcohol burn. Tastes is just as complex as the smell with some big malty creaminess, light chocolates, caramel, sweet bread, some grains, dark fruits, hops and some big alcohol heat bringing up the rear. The body is thick and creamy with heavy carbonation.

bottled, at the berlinerbierfest 2013; thanks to the kind folk at the next table for sharing. hazed amber with a steady thin head; plenty of banana in the nose; decent mix of yeast bite and sticky stone fruit with a touch of butterscotch. one of the better american belgian-styled beers i’ve tried
