3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750 ml. bottle. Batch 58312. Pours a thick rapidly deflating head, mocha color. looks almost like a bread yeast starter, with some lacing, over a cloudy reddish amber body....nose of yeast, phenols, with many fruity tones including banana, dried cherry,....tastes of lingering sweetness with dried cherry, banana, fig amongst others, finishes with a bit of coffee, cocoa bitterness...mouthfeel is creamy but strangely light (probably alcohol). Iíd like to do a blind tasting of this and some of Ommegang and Unibroues brews.

750 ml bottle - thanks to brewczar for the trade; pours dark brown with frothy white head that sits quickly; great nose with plenty of toffee, dank fruit and caramel; creamy texture with toffee, malty sweetness; booyah; texture, nose, flavor are all terrific; easily trumps the BA version

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Mighty good stuff. I liked each of the four Smokestack varieties Iíve had a chance to try. Spicy. yeasty and with a subtlety thatís often hard to find in a beer this big.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750ml bottle $7.98. Nice red-brown, not quite transparent or opaque. The head died a swift death so there is not much to comment on there. The aroma was like a fresh cut apple, cinnamon, and pepper, nice. The flavor was a little hot with more cinnamon, alcohol and fruity flavors. This was incredibly easy to drink despite the high ABV and it was quite an enjoyable beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750ml bottle poured into a Trappist glass. BSGQ pours mousy brown with a large head of very tiny bubbles that audibly pop into oblivion. The beer is very murky. The aroma is heavy in wild yeasts. Belgian sugar, alcohol and pear round out the nose. The body is surprisingly thick and highly carbonated. The taste is sweet and aggressively alcoholic. The finish is dusty and bitter like flower petals.

4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Favorite beer ever. Patterned after Westvleteren (and others) it has an aggressive carbonation to help the ABV seem a bit more tame. Belgian sugars help with a spice/plum/malt/raisin deliciousness that simply caní be beat. Youíre supposed to share this bottle with friends, but once the devil looks in my eyes, I end up drinking the whole thing. Itís a gorgeous beer. Serve it in a wide-mouthed trappist glass and youíll be happy until, in the sixth glass...
