COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen’s The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Being a fan of Quads, I enjoyed this one. A 12oz bottle, poured redish brown. Lovely aroma caramel.

I had this at Global Brew. I thought this was a good quad. I could drink this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Mostly red gleaming gold; thick frost cream head. Aroma is dominated by booze, with the certain presence of aged yeast & malt. Too sweet for me. Flavor: there’s something here I like, but it’s getting crushed by booze & spent yeast - far past the floral and fruity aspects to be desired. Residual wet, sweet, mulched earth in the palate - more than I can handle. Better fresher? Shit... it’s a quad; I’d expected layers and nuances that were entirely absent.

0.75 l bottle, thanks hanniku Reddish amber color. Sweet raisiny dessert aroma with biscuits, bread, almonds, perfumed alcohol and restrained clovey-peppery spiciness. Sweet toffeish, raisiny, biscuity and warming taste with perfumed raspberryish alchol, almonds and cherry. Restrained peppery-clovey spiciness. Heavy body, soft palate, gets clearly better with sediment. Very complex, a great dessert beer.

Aroma: Plums and yeast at first then dark fruit. Appearance: Hazy amber with a giant off white head. Flavor: Fresh plums, candy sugar and finishing with dark fruit and alcohol. Palate: Medium bodied with high carbonation. Overall: Nice aroma and initial flavor, but the alcohol comes across as a bit harsh with the lighter body.

12 oz bottle from Wilbur’s into a Duvel tulip. Amber reddish appearance with a lasting off-white head and visible sediment/yeast. Dark fruits, earthy yeast, sweet caramel malts, sugar and spices hit the nose. Similar flavor, malty, fruity, sweet and boozy. Pretty full body with a smooth, pleasing feel and soft, lightly crisp carbonation. The finish is a little boozy and sweet. Pretty smooth and tasty.

750ml bottle, shared by DanielCoor. Mildly hazy darker red color. Fine particles in the body, Thin khaki head. Some loose dots of lace. Dark fruit aroma. Moderate, kind of stronger spice. Lightly spicy sweet taste. Light belgian candy sugar. For me, just an alright quad. A little too spicy, not enough body, and dark fruit malty flavors. Still an alright quad, though. Reminds me of St. Bernardus Abt 12 (which I also thought was just OK)

750 ml bottle to snifter (thanks DanielCoor). Looks good; a semi-transparent dark amber with ample fluffy off-white head. Smells solid; dark fruit and Belgian yeast with a semi-sweet backbone. Tastes like it smells with a solid but slightly hot mouthfeel. Good beer.
