COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen’s The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Hazy amber with a thin off-white head. Malty nose with bits of ripe fruit, bread dough, and spice. Sweet/tart flavor with alcohol heat. Didn’t impress me.

Bottle (12oz $3.25): cloudy medium brown. Nice big head. Good lacing.. smells sweet, Carmel. Some alcohol warming. Kind of funky and quite a bit of carbonation.

Bottle. Pours cloudy dark amber with a huge creamy mostly lasting brown head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of yeast, caramel, ripe dark fruit and alcohol. Lightly bitter and medium sweet taste, medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation and a brief lightly bitter somewhat sweet finish. Does not hide the alcohol well.

Dark amber color, nice lasting head. Almost a "winey" taste. Quite sweet, would work well as a dessert all on its own.

Bottle. Dark pour with tan head. Dark sweet fruit, plums, yeast and other malt aromas. Spice, fruit, yeast and sweet flavors. Better flavors as it warms up.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours amber with a tan head. Taste dark fruit, sweet, Carmel. I thought this was good. I would drink this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 ml bottle. Pours a amber color with a tan head and major lace. Dark fruit, malt, caramel, molasses, and spice aroma. Fruit flavors but not overwhelming. Full body and tons of carbonation. Slightly sweet with a biscuit, dark fruit, malt and warming alcohol finish. Very good beer, it's worth it.

UPDATED: AUG 18, 2014 Very complex with all sorts of malt, yeast and fruit working together in harmony. Notable alcohol warmth and a long gently bitter finish.

Pours an attractive amber color. Nose is a little funky - not all that pleasant. Taste is some maple, caramel but the alcohol is not well hidden and I struggled with the taste through a lot of carbonation. I don't love this style of beer - I am sure others will like it more, but just ok for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer coats the tongue, a feeling which remains long after any given sip. My first tasting of this beer was probably a little too cold. The beer has a taste which I am told is called malt. Its aroma is that of bread (possibly oatmeal bread or banana bread). This beer is... fruitish in a way that caused me to write "sort of... cider-y taste?" and "sweet-syrupy taste, feel?" I had the image, while drinking this beer, of fruits at the bottom of a tree, which is an image I have had with other beers. It was a little too bitter, a problem which seemed to lessen as it warmed up. As you get down to the last sips in the glass, each has a different under-taste, which I can only assume is the result of a greater amount of yeast in each of the sips. Pair with some sort of protein and rice with light touches of soy sauce and sesame seed oil.
