COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment thatís just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard itís fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy.

Bottle at bar. Poured a golden honey with a high white head. Smells Belgian fresh with malt notes, cold, flowers and spices. Tastes reminiscent of straw, corn, good bitterness and simply delicious.

12 oz bottle from De Bierkoning @ home. Clear (light) golden color. Uneven white head with good retention and lacing. Aromaís: caramel malts, spices, peppery yeast. Retronasal itís caramellish, aniseed, pepper, light fruity sourness. Flavor is light sweet, caramel, light bitter. Alcohol feel is quite strong. Medium bodied. Quite high carbo. Long finish, slightly dry, caramellish, light bitter. Bit strong for the style, but pretty good interpretation. And tasty at that.

Great example of a Belgian ale. Tastes like a very mellow example of Hoegarden, a bit bitter of the end. A long palate with a nice aroma. Definitely do again! Light and flavorful.

On tap at Devils Den with Scott, pours very hazy orange with lots of prickly carbonation and nice sized white head. Notes are Belgian fruit, yeast, pepper, and light hops. Crisp and refreshing.

Wow, fruity aromatics, big, fluffy white head, perfectly balanced beer. Hides its 8.5 ABV better than a politician hides the truth. Overall, an amazing expression of the style.

12 oz bottle. Seems ridiculous that sitting on the shelves is this 4-pack saison that I havenít rated. I bought one once 2 years ago before I knew what a saison was and thought "high boost, funky and peppery" and left it at that. Anyway, now that Iím returning to it as a sophisticated beer rater, my assessment is pretty much the same, but Iíll say it in a lot more words: Hazy gold pour with tons of rocky white head; good retention and irregular lacing. Aroma of mineral, pepper, grapefruit, lemon zest, and a hint of cotton candy. Taste is moderately sweet up front followed immediately by a dry, borderline funky, fruity peppery moderately bitter finish. Also, warming alcohol, because 8.5%. Palate: medium body, slick texture, lively carbonation. Overall: for a multi-pack 12oz shelf saison to keep stocked in my fridge, Iíd accept as high as 7% ABV. Too bad, my search continues -- this is pretty nice, though.

Pours a clear light orange. Aroma is of yeast, wheat and fruit. A smooth body and taste of yeast, orange peel, fruit, and spices.

Bright gold with steady bubbles feeding a nice ring and island of foam, with lots of interesting lacing along the sides after sipping. The aroma is quite complex and is a good indication of the flavors that come out. Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Overall a very drinkable and interesting exploration of what a Saison can be.

nice Belgian spice aromatics of herb and a bit of alcohol. nice and flavorful true to tradition oddly (why couldnít celis do that good down in Texas?) with a bit of power to....do whatever you would want to do with that. described as is above.
