Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment thatís just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard itís fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy.

On tap at the Rose & Crown in Nantucket. Golden pour with a little head. Sweet, grainy aroma. Light fruity flavor with a mild spicy tang. Not nearly as funky as many of my favorites but quite enjoyable nonetheless.

On tap at Whole Foods. Pours a hazy golden light orange color with lasting fluffy white head and lacing. Aroma is sweet and complex: citrus, spices with emphasis on clove, and sweet fruits with banana notes. Flavor is funky and quenching: citrus tartness, mostly lemon zest, hay, grass, wheat. Medium bodied, snappy tart finish with lovely carbonation.

This saison seems a little watered down and possibly served too cold. Everything seems right but finish falls flat. Will need to resample soon.

Keg @ Tusk & Trotter. Hazy deep gold with an eggshell white head. Plenty of brusque saison yeast character. Pollen-dusted Belgian countryside. Mandarin orange sweet citrus. Some saltwater taffy. Mashed banana and orange peel. Acidic tang. Peppery finish. Nice and dry. Light body, effervescent carbonation. Very good.

Pours slightly hazy straw yellow with a short lived white head. Aroma is tart, spicy, fruity, citrus, clean, and bready. Flavor is very acidic, slightly bitter, doughy, tart and refreshing. Alcohol is hidden. Light body, crisp, drying finish.

Nice smooth flavor, great aroma. Well worth the cost. Enjoyed at the Beaverdale tap...

THOUGHTS: Very intense saison. Tons of flavor but easy to drink and hid ABV easily. Very enjoyable. It would go well with a large variety of food. THOUGHTS: Tried 2/24/2013. Bottle. Label said 8% ABV not 8.5%. Poured a hazy, medium yellow with a large, every so slightly off-white head that mostly diminished but left excellent lacing. The aroma contained moderate light bread and pale malts; moderate lemon, pineapple and tropical fruit hops; slight melon hops; heavy spicy and dusty yeast; and honey. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and heavily bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet and moderately acidic and bitter with a long duration. There was cracker, white bread, lemon tropical fruit, a little grapefruit, and spicy and dusty yeast. The light to medium body was dry with fizzy carbonation and a dry finish.

Pours. Who the h knows. Itís dark outside and all I can tell is that it has a large white head. Aromas of saison. Taste is off dry phenolic esters of the Belgian variety. Itís tśm but not mind blowing. Iím buzzed quick.

Enjoyed on tap at Lyfe Kitchen in Chicago, IL prior to seeing Kids in the Hall. Appearance is cloudy gold with a thin white head. Aroma of light spice, Belgian ale yeast, light clove, smell is nice. Taste is rather good, somewhere between a Hefeweizen and a Belgian ale, with clove notes and a light fruity characteristic. I can see why this is a popular brew.
