Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment that’s just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard it’s fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - golden with a generous fluffy head. Nose - floral notes, light oranges. Taste - big orangey notes this time. Dried orange peel in fact. Light spiced on the finish. Palate - medium bodied with a big tangy texture and a long dry tangy finish. Well balanced. Moreish. Overall - a lovely super charged saison. Getting into Belgian Tripel territory here.

12 fl. oz. bottle. Pours a hazy golden with a huge, foamy, long lasting white head that laces. Grapefruit aroma with yeast, spice and hay. Sweet flavour of grapefruit, malt, straw and yeast with a spicy, dry, hoppy finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation.

F: huge frothy/creamy white head. C: cloudy pale yellow golden. A: citrusy, grapefruit, apples, pine, grassy, spice like green pepper. T: very nice medium body with good carbonation, plenty of hops with citrusy, orange, grapefruit, crisp, then earthy profile with sweet grass finish, more hoppy than Saison, almost like an IPA, but still very very good.

12 oz. bottle. It pours a semi clear light orange color with a beautiful, large frothy white head. The aroma is fresh and inviting with light notes of biscuits and bubble gum. Also strong floral hops and noticeable, but not overpowering spicy phenols. The flavor is the same. Floral and citrus hops up front with some biscuits and bubblegum sweetness followed by prickly, spicy bitter finish. Rather full bodied and fluffy on the palate. Tasty, but not very sessionable. This seems to be what a Belgian IPA should taste like.

Carbonatation moyenne, corps moyen.

Huge, lightly yellowish head over well-carbonated clear orangeish golden beer; lacerings. (White) grapey hops, coriander, yeast features. Bitterish, hoppy flavour; slightly burning/fiery MF. Caramel, but not sweet, bitter almonds. Medium bodied, quite slick. Faint alcoholwarming. If it weren’t for that coriander streak in the nose, I’d actually like this quite well.

UPDATED: JUN 10, 2015 After the acquisition of this brewery by Moortgat, this is the first beer they chose to test on the Belgian market; I tasted it from tap at De Trollekelder in Ghent, apparently one of only 100 pubs selected by Moortgat to serve it. Very thick, whipped cream-like, dense, moussy, snow white head towering over a hazy golden blonde beer with somewhat greenish hue. Yeasty and floral aroma of grapefruit, hay, gooseberries, nettles, hemp, grass, chamomille, bitter honey, unripe plum, green apple and a weak but noticeable presence of H2S (rotting egg). Restrained fruitiness in the taste, very sour apple-like, berries, hint of peach, sourish lemon zest, very sharp carbonation, minerally and sparkling, somewhat grainy malt base with bready touch, evolving in a spicy, yeasty, bit peppery and floral hop bittering finish, but relatively ’soft’. Acceptable as a saison (though I’d prefer a Dupont or Saison d’Epéautre over it); I do hope many more (and more exciting) of this brewery’s products will become available in Belgium through Moortgat.

Wonderful spicy/herbal/citrus aroma. Taste is almost as good, I get orange, clove, and the vaguest hints of funk and alcohol. This is an excellent beer.

Geruch nach Zitrusfrüchten und weißem Traubensaft. Geschmack etwas nach Lösungsmittel, insgesamt aber vornehmlich geprägt durch ein kräftiges Hopfenaroma.
