Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment thatís just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard itís fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy.

12 ounce bottle purchased at Total Wine in Sacramento. The aroma on this is really great. Fruity, lemony, lightly spicy (white pepper), and just a little bit of yeast esters. Nicely aromatic. The body is a mostly transparent dark golden one, with a large, strong, rocky, pillowy white head. Nice. Starts with some carbonation, before this becomes a bit dry, and spicy with white pepper flavors. Some pimento olive flavor is also present in the middle. Becomes more dry, and a little more estery and barnyardy late. Light herbal and citrus bitter hoppiness. Nice stuff.

Bottle shared by ygtbsm94. Thanks Brad. The beer is transparent and golden colored with 1/4" of white head after a slow pour into a snifter. The aroma offers grass, yeast, lemons, funk. Smells inviting. The taste is crisp and clean, with everything well balanced. A touch of funk sits nicely with light citrus notes, particularly lemons. The finish offers some herbal notes and lingering floral hops. Light to medium in body. Good stuff - I would like to have this again. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-06-2012

(Bottled, 0.75l) Clear golden with a medium, strongly lacy head. Citrus-lime-aromatic nose with slight bretty tartness and lots of pale, bisquity malt. Flavor is lime-lemony, Belgian-yeasty and mildly tart. Sweetness and bitterness are successfully pushed aside - a rare treat from a US Saison. Citrusy aroma hops are very strongly dominant, but that makes the (medium+) palate crisp and refreshing. This canít compete with the La Chouffe I had earlier (yeah, I know itís not a saison) in complexity - but still itís a very nice and refreshing beer, that is nice to sip on a Xmas eve afternoon.

Bottle. Pours golden with a huge white head. Very drinkable beer with a nice mix of sweet crystal malts (cookies!), mild spices and herbal hops.

Not my favorite smokestake, but others seem to like it.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine (Triangle) in Raleigh, NC. Pale yellow pour with a frothy white head. Aroma of lemon zest, Belgian yeast, and faint horseblanket. The flavor is of spicy hops, faint citrus, and grassy/Earthy notes. Finishes clean. Hard to find fault with anything on this one.

Bottle. Cloudy yellow pour. Big white head. Aroma is spicy amarillo hops and it is very pleasant. The aroma is my favorite feature of this beer. Flavor consists of the same amarillo spiciness and some bitterness. I donít know what it is, but I did not really care for the flavor of this beer. Tasted a lot like the Stone, Victory, Dogfish head collaboration Saison de Buff which had a flavor the was much too savory for my palate.

Balances a great hop bite with a malty, sweet, nutty finish. Great Belgian yeast character fraught with citrus. Lively carbonation. Really shows the range of tastes a great saison can deliver.

750ml bottle from letspour.com. Yellow pour with a massive fluffy white head that took forever to subside. Aroma is light hay, spice and citrus. Tastes are bready, belgian yeast, grapefruit zest, little bit of pepper, pear. More spice and malt come through in the dry-ish finish. Surprised to see itís 8% -- covers it well, just a faint warmth. Very nice.

Unfiltered dark honey amber color. Wonderfully pillowy white foam very stable and lacy head. Citrusy hops and floral yeast dominate the nose. Wow great mouthfeel. The fruit jumps out first on the palate. Some apricot stone fruits, creamy crystal malts follow mid palate with finally the hops standing up at the end. Slight bitterness with a clean lingering fresh grass. ---That dog will hunt!
